Loren or Loring is a name also found among the children of John Manchester & Sarah Bailey; John is presumably a brother to Rhody, great-grandmother of this Loren.

Notes:

In the 1850 Federal Census, Joseph & Sarah Devol, ages 79 & 65, both b RI, are living at Bristol, Morgan Co., OH. They are with (presumed) son Lorenzo (Loren?) & his wife Lucinda and their four children.

In 1860, Joseph & Sarah, ages 87 & 72, are still with their son and family at Bristol, OH, and the household now includes five children.

Loren & Lucinda Devol are still in Morgan Co. in 1870, but Joseph is not with them; he passed away in 1863.

Joseph — Sarah "Sally" Manchester. Sarah (daughter of John MANCHESTER and Nancy Manchester) was born 27 Sep 1786, Tiverton, RI; died 1 Jul 1861, Meigs Creek, Bristol, Morgan Co., OH. [Group Sheet]

One genealogy has her date of birth as 28 Sep 1787, and gives her full name as Sarah Bailey Manchester.

The book "Little Compton Families" by B. F. Wilbour p. 410 says that this John Manchester married first Nancy, then Lucy. I have not been able to verify this with certainty, as there were several John Manchesters in Tiverton around this time. However, for the present I have attached Nancy and Lucy as his two wives.

A query posted on the Manchester mailing list at rootsweb.com gives John & Lucy's marriage date as 18 March 1804, Tiverton, no source noted.

It appears that this John Manchester may very well be our ancestor, based on the opinion of genealogist John Redfern (contact information available on request).

The births of Isaac & Abigail's children are recorded at Tiverton, Vol. 1, p. 79.

It appears that John remarried only two months after his first wife's death.

Isaac married Abigail BROWN 1 Nov 1750, Tiverton, RI. Abigail (daughter of Abraham BROWN and Sarah CORY) was born 21 Feb 1731/32; died 1769. [Group Sheet]

I have made an assumption that she is the Rhoda Manchester who had a daughter named Nancy Manchester, recorded in the Tiverton VRs on 11 June 1764. The will below supports that, as her son-in-law John Manchester was first married to a Nancy, with their children's births recorded at Tiverton. Also, the executor was James Manchester, her nephew, who may have been the son of her brother Gilbert.

In the 1820 Tiverton census Rhoda Manchester is living with just one male age 10-16. I am not sure that this is this particular Rhoda, but it is a reasonable assumption.

Rhoda Manchester of Tiverton, gentlewoman, wrote her will 13 Aug 1823, proved 5 Sep 1825. In it she mentions her (stepson or son-in-law?) John Manchester and his wife Lucy; their five children: Gideon, Allen, John, Jr., Searel, & Nancy; 7 grandchildren -- Cornelius Cook Manchester (under 21); Thaddeus, Ellery, & Deborah Manchester; Sally Devole (w/o Joseph), Polly Devole (w/o Presbury), & Rhoda Gifford; also great-grandchild Nancy Devole dtr. of Sally; other individuals -- Andrew, Nancy, & Almy Gifford, children of Sylvester Gifford, Esq., of Little Compton: and Peace, wife of Cyrus Gray of NY. Her nephew James Manchester was appointed executor.
