    Notes:

    In the 1920 New Bedford City Directory, Frank S. Akin is living with his parents at 11 Babbitt St., and is an electrical instructor at New Bedford Vocational School.

    In the 1930 Federal Census, Frank is age 47 and single, living with his sister Alice's family at Pawtucket, RI. He is an electrician.

  1. 2.  Ephraim G. Akin was born Between 1862 and 1864, Westport, Bristol Co., MA (son of Daniel B. Akin and Sarah R. Allen); died 30 Jul 1922; was buried , Rural Cemetery, New Bedford, MA.

    Notes:

    In the 1900 Federal Census, Ephraim G. & Emma R. Akin are living on Babbit St., New Bedford, MA. They have three children: Frank S. 15, Alice R. 11, & Sarah R. ?. Also in the household is Charles Hicks, 66, Emma's father.

    In 1910 the family is still there: Ephraim is 48, Emma is 50, Frank F. is 26, Alice G. R. is 21, and Sarah E. is 16. Charles is no longer with them, so probably he has passed away.

    I have not been able to locate the family in the 1920 census. However, in the 1921 New Bedford City Directory, Ephraim G. & Emma Akin are living at 11 Babbitt St., along with son Frank S. Akin, who is an electrical instructor.

    Ephraim married Emma Russell Hicks Abt 1883. Emma (daughter of Charles Russell Hicks and Alice Grinnell Peirce) was born Abt 1859, Tiverton, RI; died 2 May 1924; was buried , Rural Cemetery, New Bedford, MA. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Daniel & Sarah Akin are living at Westport, MA, with the elder Akins and other extended family, including Sarah's mother. Daniel is a sailor.

    In 1860, Daniel & Sarah Aiken are still at Westport. They have three children: Charles H. 9, Frank S. 6, & Cornelius 4. Sarah's mother, Rebecca Allen is still with them, at age 82.

    In 1870 Daniel & Sarah are still at Westport, and have three sons, Charles H., Frank S., & Ephraim G. Daniel is a teamster; Charles is a mariner.

    In 1880 they are still at Westport, ages 58 & 62, with two of their children in the household: Ephraim G. 18, & Nellie S. 12. Daniel is a farmer and has asthma.

    In the 1860 Federal Census, Charles R. & Alice G. Hicks, ages 25 & 22, are living at Tiverton, RI. They have a daughter, Emma, age 1.

    The family remains at Tiverton through the 1880 census, where they are living adjacent to Charles's brothers Edward & Samuel and their families, as well as his parents and single brother John, Jr.

    In 1900, Charles Hicks is age 66, living at New Bedford, MA, with his married daughter Emma Akin and family. His wife Alice is married to William Harps and also living at New Bedford.

    In the 1900 Federal Census, Alice is married to William Harps and is living at New Bedford, MA. The census gives her age as 50 and her date of birth as Oct 1849; however, she is actually about 64 years old, since she was born in 1836.

    Her middle name was probably Grinnell. Alice died at the age of 81y 1m 21d, of cerebral hemorrage, on 25 Nov 1917.

    Alice is buried at Rural Cemetery in New Bedford, MA. This cemetery lot has family members of the surnames Remington, Pierce, Briggs, Swift, Harps, Achorn, & Akin. It is next to the lot of David Pierce, his two wives, and other extended family members.

    Notes:

    Timothy was of Westport, MA; his parents are said to be of Yarmouth, MA.

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Timothy Akin is age 60, living at Westport, MA, with his second wife, Sarah, age 55. Also with them are son Daniel and his wife Sarah, ages 28 & 32; the other four children -- Benjamin R. 24, Phebe B. 22, George C. 17, & Edward 13; also Sarah's (presumed) brother Caleb Russell, age 66; and Rebecca Allen, 73, most likely young Sarah's mother. Also there is Eliza Smith, age 14.

    According to Robert Larry Akin's family tree at Rootsweb's Worldconnect, Timothy was b 2 Apr 1790 at Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA, and d 11 Mar 1873 at Westport, Bristol Co., MA.

    Timothy married Phebe Bowman Abt 1820. Phebe was born Abt 1795; died Between 1821 and 1824. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    In the 1850 Federal Census, John & Emma are living at Tiverton, RI, with their six sons. Also in the household is May Lake, 14. They are next door to Isaac & Elizabeth Sherman as well as Ruth Lake, who is living in the Sherman household. Two doors down are Seabury & Phebe Peirce and their four children. A few years later, Alice Peirce will marry Charles Hicks.

    The Hicks family and several of their sons, who marry and have children, remain in Tiverton, where they can be found in future censuses.

    Notes:

    According to "The Pierce Project" web site, Seabury and family lived in New Bedford, MA, & Barre, VT.

    The death record for his daughter, Alice G. Harps, says Seabury was born in Somerset., MA. I am not sure of this.

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Seabury & Hope Peirce, ages 38 & 35, are living at Tiverton, RI, with their four children: Alice 12, Seabury 7, Phebe 9, & Ella 4.

    In the MA State Census of 1 May 1865, Seabury, Phebe, and Ella are living in New Bedford.

    Seabury is on the tax list for 1866 at Orange, VT. He died there 31 March 1873 at age 60 y 10 m. His occupation was given as cooper.

    Notes:

    Phebe and her sister Hope married two brothers.

    In the 1860 census, Phebe Pearce is age 45 RI, "widow" living in New Bedford. Also in the household are: Phebe J. 19 MA, Frank 16 MA, and Ella M. 14 MA; also Abner Remington 41 RI.

    In the MA 1865 census, Seabury and Phebe are listed as together in New Bedford with daughter Ella in the household.
