    In the 1860 Federal Census, John Q. A. & Susan S. Cobb, ages 30 & 29, are living at New Bedford, MA. There are four children in the household: Adelade I. Lake 12, Albert E. Lake 10, Hattie E. Cobb 6, & Charlotte R. Cobb 2. They are next door to Ellery & Abbie Manchester, Susan's parents, and two of her siblings.

    Notes:

    Susan's marriage record to John Cobb gives her birth place as New Bedford, although census data says RI. It also identifies her parents as Ellery & Abby Manchester.

  1. 6.  Ellery Manchester was born Abt 1808, Tiverton, Newport Co., RI (son of Perry Manchester and Anna Bennett); died 17 Jun 1888, New Bedford, Bristol Co., MA.

    Notes:

    In 1850, 1860, and 1870, Ellery & Abby Manchester are living at New Bedford, MA. In 1880 Ellery and his second wife, Esther, are still at New Bedford. His two wives were sisters.

    Ellery's age is given in the four censuses as follows: 42, 52, 63, & 73.

    In all the censuses, several of the children are living with them:

    1850 -- Rody A. 14, William H. 12, Amelia F. 5, & Ellery L. 3. (They are living next to William S. & Cynthia Manchester; he is s/o John & Lydia of Tiverton; also near Peleg Manchester, age 72)

    1860 -- Abbie F. 15, & Zenas E. (probably Ellery) 13 (They are living next to daughter Susan Cobb and family)

    1870 -- Abby A. F. 25, Ellery L. 23, his wife Emily F. 19, & Abby M. 1 month (Abby age 61 died right around the time the census was taken)

    1880 -- Esther M. Gifford 23, & Cora F. Gifford 16 (children of Esther's first marriage).

    Ellery died of heart disease.

    Notes:

    Anna is mentioned in her father's will as his daughter Anna, wife of Perry Manchester.

    In the Federal Census of 1850, Anna Manchester is age 74, living in New Bedford. Son Nathaniel and his wife Ruth are with her.
