    In the 1860, 1870, and 1880 Federal Censuses, John & Lydia are living at Portsmouth, RI. John is 42/52/62; Lydia is 28/38/48. children listed with them in the household are: Ann Augusta (7/17/27), Clara W. (11 mos in 1860 and 10 y in 1870), and Bertha L. (6 in 1870 and 16 in 1880).

    Notes:

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Edward is age 65 and living at Portsmouth, RI. His son John, age 32, is living with him. They are living near his brother William and son.

    Notes:

    According to John's Revolutionary War Pension File, both he and Mary were born in Tiverton, and knew each other from their youth.

    I have roughly estimated his year of birth. At present it is unclear which family group this John Manchester belongs to. He may be a son of Isaac Manchester and Hannah Cundall, since the name Isaac is found several times in subsequent generations.

    Or, could he be a son of John & Lidia who were married 13 May 1749 at Tiverton?

    Glenn Russell's family tree at Rootsweb's Worldconnect lists 8 children for this couple, but I am including only 5 of them at this point. This family needs more research.

    Mary's maiden name is identified in the Revolutionary War Pension file of her husband John Manchester (#W21752).

    She is most likely related to Elizabeth Fish, who married Benjamin Hambly, possibly a sister or a cousin.

    According to the private journal of Elder Peleg Burroughs of Tiverton, a Minister of the Gospel, "on the 8th day of September A. D. 1780 -- Preached at B. Hambly's upon Psalm 107:31 (O that men would praise xc) married John Manchester to M.F. and stayed all night at Bro. Davenports."

    Benjamin Hambly's wife was Elizabeth Fish, probably related to Mary (needs more research).
