Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Jabez R. Colvin was born Abt 1815 (son of David Colvin and Lucy Remington); died 24 Aug 1878, Coventry, RI.

    Notes:

The RI Death Index identifies Jabez as s/o David & Lucy.

In the 1850 Federal Census, he is living with Obadiah Colvin in Cranston, RI, next to Holden & Phebe Colvin.

In both the 1860 & 1870 censuses, Jabez Colvin is living with Charles & Caroline Stone at Scituate, RI. Caroline is probably his first cousin, daughter of Russell Remington, brother of Jabez's mother Lucy.

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  David Colvin was born 16 Jul 1762 (son of Josiah Colvin and Freelove Ralph); died 28 Jul 1832; was buried , David Colvin Cemetery, Glenview Ct., Scituate, RI.

    Notes:

According to a genealogy at Rootsweb's Worldconnect, David was married first to Rebecca Phillips, with whom he had six children. Rebecca Colvin is buried in the same cemetery lot, so I am including her here as David's first wife.

I obtained the names of David's parents from an online family tree; this information needs to be confirmed.

The will of David Colvin of Scituate, advanced in years, is dated 18 Feb 1824, proved 13 Sep 1832. It mentions wife Lucy; sons David Jr., Christopher R., Obediah, Jabez R.; dtr. Nancy Phillips Colvin; and other unnamed children who already have their estate.

David married Lucy Remington Aft 19 Mar 1808. Lucy (daughter of Jonathan Remington and Mary Havens) was born Abt 1770; died 7 May 1838; was buried , David Colvin Cemetery, Glenview Ct., Scituate, RI. [Group Sheet]

  2. 3.  Lucy Remington was born Abt 1770 (daughter of Jonathan Remington and Mary Havens); died 7 May 1838; was buried , David Colvin Cemetery, Glenview Ct., Scituate, RI.

    Notes:

Lucy may have had a daughter named Phebe before she was married. However, I have placed Phebe in the family of Lucy's brother Russell and his first wife, also named Lucy. (see notes for Phebe)

An online family tree shows two more sons for Lucy & David: Obediah & David, Jr. (needs more research to confirm). In the 1850 census Obadiah & Jabez are living in the same household.

    Children:
    1. Lucinda Colvin was born Abt 1812; died 15 Dec 1826; was buried , David Colvin Cemetery, Glenview Ct., Scituate, RI.
    2. Obadiah Colvin was born Abt 1813.
    3. 1. Jabez R. Colvin was born Abt 1815; died 24 Aug 1878, Coventry, RI.

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Josiah Colvin was born Abt 1735 (son of James Colvin and Anna Lippitt); died Abt Jun 1791; was buried , #123 Josiah Colvin Cemetery, Labrea Way, off Clarke Rd., Scituate, RI.

    Notes:

The will of Josiah Colvin of Scituate, yeoman, is dated 17 March 1791 and proved 11 June 1791. It mentions wife Freelove; sons Aaron, David, Andrew, & Stephen; dtrs Dorcas Ralph, Patience Burlingame, & Alice Colvin; and sister Anna Colvin.

Josiah married Freelove Ralph 21 Mar 1754, Scituate, RI. Freelove (daughter of Thomas Ralph and Alice Ralph) was born Abt 1737; died 5 Apr 1832; was buried , #123 Josiah Colvin Cemetery, Labrea Way, off Clarke Rd., Scituate, RI. [Group Sheet]

  2. 5.  Freelove Ralph was born Abt 1737 (daughter of Thomas Ralph and Alice Ralph); died 5 Apr 1832; was buried , #123 Josiah Colvin Cemetery, Labrea Way, off Clarke Rd., Scituate, RI.
    Children:
    1. 2. David Colvin was born 16 Jul 1762; died 28 Jul 1832; was buried , David Colvin Cemetery, Glenview Ct., Scituate, RI.

  3. 6.  Jonathan Remington was born 28 Dec 1743, RI (son of Thomas Remington, Sr. and Mary Collins); died Aft 6 Aug 1810, Scituate, RI.

    Notes:

Scituate Land Evidence Vol. 8 p. 39 records a transaction in which Jonathan Remington received a deed on 11 April 1785 from Christopher and Wait Lippitt. Probably it refers to this Jonathan. Since his great-grandmother was Martha Lippitt, probably Christopher was a relative.

The following may pertain to this Jonathan:

In the 1800 Federal Census, he is listed at Scituate as Jonathan Remmington (same page as Joseph Remington), with a household as follows: 1 FWM 45+, 2 FWF <10, 1 FWF 10-15, 1 FWF 26-44, and 1 FWF 45+.

In 1810 he is listed at Scituate as Johnathan Remington, but the household consists of just an adult male and an adult female.

On 20 March 1776, Elisha & Desire Clark of North Kingstown purchased land in Exeter from Jonathan Remington of Warwick, yeoman. Was it this Jonathan? If so, he would have been about 33. But see other Jonathan Remingtons on this tree.

Boyd Scott Remington shows two marriages for him, so I am entering them, although no sources are noted (needs further research).

Jonathan married Mary Havens 15 Jun 1769, Warwick, RI. Mary (daughter of Nathaniel Havens) was born Abt 1747, RI; died Aft 6 Aug 1810, Scituate, RI. [Group Sheet]

  4. 7.  Mary Havens was born Abt 1747, RI (daughter of Nathaniel Havens); died Aft 6 Aug 1810, Scituate, RI.

    Notes:

Mary was "of Nathaniel, of North Kingstown."

I have made an assumption that she is the wife implied in the 1800 and 1810 censuses.

    Notes:

1769 Remington, Jonathan, of Warwick, and Mary Havens, of Nathaniel, of North Kingstown; m. by Eld. Charles Holden, June 15, 1769. Vol. 2 p. 152, Marriage Warwick

    Children:
    1. 3. Lucy Remington was born Abt 1770; died 7 May 1838; was buried , David Colvin Cemetery, Glenview Ct., Scituate, RI.
    2. Alta Mary Remington was born 1772, Scituate, RI.
    3. Peleg Remington was born Abt 1775; died 16 Dec 1847; was buried , Greenwood Cemetery, Fairview Ave., Coventry, RI.
    4. Russell Remington was born 12 Jul 1776; died 26 Jul 1817; was buried , Historical Cemetery 540 "lost, " Remington Lot, Hope Ave., Scituate, RI.

Generation: 4

  1. 8.  James Colvin (son of John Colvin and Dorothy Allen).

James — Anna Lippitt. [Group Sheet]

  2. 9.  Anna Lippitt
    Children:
    1. Stephen Colvin
    2. Anna Colvin
    3. 4. Josiah Colvin was born Abt 1735; died Abt Jun 1791; was buried , #123 Josiah Colvin Cemetery, Labrea Way, off Clarke Rd., Scituate, RI.

  3. 10.  Thomas Ralph

Thomas — Alice Ralph. [Group Sheet]

  4. 11.  Alice Ralph
    Children:
    1. 5. Freelove Ralph was born Abt 1737; died 5 Apr 1832; was buried , #123 Josiah Colvin Cemetery, Labrea Way, off Clarke Rd., Scituate, RI.

  5. 12.  Thomas Remington, Sr. was born 24 Feb 1718/19, Warwick, RI (son of Joseph Remington, I and Margaret Burlingame); died Aft 1774.

    Notes:

Thomas and his heirs received land in Scituate from his father Joseph, 15 March 1743 (Scituate Land Evidence, Vol. 3, p. 27). This was the same land that Joseph had bought in 1731.

There is a record at Scituate dated 28 Jul 1759 of Thomas, resident of Scituate, and his family moving to Portsmouth, RI. (source Barbara Chase)

On 21 Feb 1761, Thomas Remington of Portsmouth sold land and house in Scituate to George Roberts of Warwick. (Sc. Land Ev. Bk 5 p. 319; source Barbara Chase)

He may be the Thomas Remington, son of Joseph, listed at Warwick in the 1774 RI Census. If so, this would mean that he moved from Portsmouth to Warwick.

He may also be one of the 4 Thomas Remingtons listed in the 1790 census at Warwick.

The births of five of Thomas & Mary's children are recorded at Scituate. However, they may have been born elsewhere and recorded there after the family moved to Scituate.

Thomas married Mary Collins 23 Nov 1740, Providence, RI. Mary (daughter of Eliezar Collins, Sr. and Elizabeth Unknown) was born Abt 1720; died Aft 29 Jul 1754. [Group Sheet]

  6. 13.  Mary Collins was born Abt 1720 (daughter of Eliezar Collins, Sr. and Elizabeth Unknown); died Aft 29 Jul 1754.

    Notes:

She probably is a daughter of Elisha Collins; see his Scituate will dated 31 Oct 1778, proved 3 Dec 1778.

    Notes:

I am making the assumption that the Thomas and Mary whose marriage is recorded in Scituate, belongs to this family group, since this Thomas had a brother Lippitt, whose marriage was also recorded in the same book. The notation implies that they were married in Providence, but that the marriage was recorded in Scituate several years later. The Scituate record says 20 Nov.

Providence records this marriage: Thomas, of Providence, and Mary Collins, of Scituate, m. by William Burton, Justice, Nov. 23, 1740. (see Arnold's VRs for Providence - Marriages p. 157)

REMINGTON Thomas, and Mary Collins, of Eliza; m. by William Burton, Justice, Nov. 20, 1740 (Scituate VRs).

He may have been the Thomas Remington who later moved to Portsmouth (needs more research); see this note from Barbara Chase: "Scituate, RI Probate Records; Vol. 1; p. 409 - 28 Jul 1759 - Certificate to Thomas Remington who has 'moved with his family to Portsmouth' and acknowledged that he, his wife, and children were proper inhabitants of the town of Scituate."
