Born in Warwick, a daughter of the late Percy F. Remington and Bessie M. (Clark) Remington, she lived in Warwick for most of her life.

Mrs. Messier was employed in the office of Paramount Line Greeting Card Co. in Pawtucket for 44 years before retiring in 1982. She was a member of the A.A.R.P. and the Pilgrim Senior Center in Warwick.

In the Federal Census of 1 Jan 1920, Percy F. 25, Bessie M. 26, and daughter Lois A. 5 are living at Wariwck, RI.

In the 1930 Federal Census, Percy F. & Ora P. Remington are both age 37, living at Jamestown, Newport, Co., RI. They have a son, Edward P., age 1 year and 4 months. Also, Ora's mother, Kate H. Potter, is living with them. She is a widow, age 75.

Percy married Bessie M. Clark Abt 1914. Bessie was born 10 Dec 1893, RI; died Feb 1982. [Group Sheet]

In the Federal Census of 1 Apr 1930, Bessie Remington is age 36 divorced, living on West Shore Rd. in Warwick, RI, with her grandparents, Fred & Harriet Ditson. With them is Bessie's daughter, Lois, age 15, and another family member, George Clark 58.

In the 1850 Federal Census, Charles is age 12 and living with his family in Cranston, RI. In the 1860 Federal Census, Charles is age 22, still living at home with his parents and siblings in Cranston, RI. I have not located him in the 1870 census.

I have made an assumption that this individual in the 1880 Federal Census is the son of Albert & Eliza. Charles's middle initial and date of death were obtained from the Rhode Island Death Index, which identifies Charles A. Remington as the son of Albert & Eliza, and says he he died at the age 57. The age and middle initial agree with the census data in 1880. His wife's death is also recorded on the same page in the Rhode Island Death Index.

In the 1875 Rhode Island Census, his name appears as Charles H. Remington, age 37. His wife Mary S. Remington is 32, while son Amasa E. is 7. The family is at Providence, RI.

Charles married Lillian English 27 Dec 1883, RI. Lillian was born Jun 1866, MA; died Aft 1 Jan 1920, FL. [Group Sheet]

In the 1900 Federal Census, Lillian M. Remington is age 34, widowed, and living as a housekeeper in the home of George H. Shaw on Asia St. in Cranston, RI. Her two sons are boarding there with her: Myron, 7, and Percy, 6.

In 1910 she is Lillian Knight, married to Edward (should read Everett?) Knight, living on Westwood Ave. in Cranston, RI. Her two sons, Myron (Mirain?) & Percy, ages 17 & 15, are there.

In the 1920 Federal Census, Lillian (English) (Remington) Knight is living in Denver, Denver Co., CO. She is a widow, age 47. However, she must have taken a few years off her age, because she was married to Charles A. Remington in 1883. According to the 1900 census data, she was born in June 1866, which would make her 54 in 1920.

Her son, Myron English Remington, age 27, is living in Denver with his widowed mother.

Notes:

The Rhode Island Death Index identifies Alfred F. Remington as a son of Charles & Mary Remington. I have made an assumption that he belongs in this particular family group, because I know of no other couple named Charles & Mary in this time frame. Also, the names of Alfred's children are important clues that reflect the names of his siblings.

In the 1850 Federal Census, Alfred F. & Eliza Remington, ages 45 & 42, are living in Cranston, RI. They have four children: Harriet 19, Charles 12, Albert 4, & Henry E. 2.

In the 1860 Federal Census, Albert F. & Eliza Remington, ages 54 & 51, are still living in Cranston. Three of their children are in the household: Charles 22, Albert F. 16, & Henry A. 12.

In 1870 they are in Ward 9, Providence, RI: Albert F. is 65 and Eliza R. is 60; Henry E. is 22.

By 1880, Albert & Eliza have an empty nest. He is age 74 and an invalid; she is 71. They are living in District 53, Providence, RI.

Albert married Eliza A. Read 1 May 1828, Providence, RI. Eliza (daughter of Peter Read and Margaret Unknown) was born Between 1808 and 1810, MA; died 31 Mar 1884, RI. [Group Sheet]

Eliza's maiden name and the names of her parents were obtained from the Rhode Island Death Index. According to census data, both of her parents were born in MA.
