Arthur married Minnie Trautman 30 Oct 1915, Gowanda, NY. Minnie was born 14 Mar 1895, Otto, NY; died 15 Nov 1983, NY; was buried , Villenova Cemetery, Balcom Corners, Chautauqua Co., NY. [Group Sheet]

At the time of their marriage, Arthur was 18 and Minnie was 20.

6. Rita Mae Remington was born 26 May 1931, NY.

In the Federal Census of 1910, the family is living at Villenova, Chautauqua Co., NY: Frank O. 42, Jessie E. 36, Coralyn 14, Arthur 12, & Jay 8.

In 1920 the family is still at Villenova: Frank O. 49, Jessie E. 46, Carey V. 26, Jay M. 17, & Richard F. 9. I don't know why Carey was not listed with them in 1910.

In 1930 Frank & Jessie are still at Villenova; son Richard is in the household with them and son Arthur and family are nearby.

Frank married Jessie Ethel Vickory 20 Apr 1893. Jessie was born 1873, NY; died 15 Nov 1938; was buried , Villenova Cemetery, Balcom Corners, Chautauqua Co., NY. [Group Sheet]

In the Federal Census of 1870, Wallace & Emma Remington, ages 30 & 25, are living at Dayton, Cattaraugus Co., NY. They have four children: Ida 8, George 5, Frank 3, and Newell 6 months. They are living next to Garret Remington and his wife, who are next to Orange Remington and family.

In 1910 W. W. Remington and wife Emma, ages 70 & 66, are living at Red House, Cattaraugus Co., NY. With them is son William, 28. Next door is Adelbert Remington and his family. I have made an assumption that Adelbert is a son of Wiliam & Emma.

William married Emma Markham Abt 1861. Emma was born 23 Mar 1842, NY; died Aft 15 Apr 1910, NY; was buried , Cattaraugus Co., NY. [Group Sheet]

Please note that Orange is placed here as a son of Stephen & Thankful solely on the basis of location, that is, living next to or near other family members in the censuses. To date I have not personally found records to indicate he belongs here, other than the general time frame and location of birth. There is some discrepancy concerning his birthdate. Pat Boyden's genealogy lists Orange as a son of Joseph Remington & Loranna Griffiths. (This family needs more research.)

A descendant, Linda Lee Schell, says there is (somewhere) a family Bible which indicates that Orange's mother was named Catherine. Could Thankful have died and Stephen married a second wife named Catherine? This is a possibility.

In the Federal Census of 1850, Orange & Mary D. Remington, ages 44 NY & 32 NY, are living at Dayton, Cattaraugus Co., NY. They have four children: Hepsabah 13 MI, William W. 10 NY, Garret 8, & George W. 5 NY. They are listed next to Hiram & Alzada Remington.

In the Federal Census of 1860 the family is still at Dayton: Orange 49 VT, Mary D. 42 NY, William W. 20 NY, Garret P. 18 NY, & George W. 15 NY.

In the Federal Census of 1870, Orange & Mary are ages 59 VT & 52 NY. With them is son George, who is married to Alice, and their infant daughter Carrie. They are next to Garret Remington and his wife; they in turn are next to Wallace Remington and family. Nearby is Hiram Remington and family.

A history of Dayton, NY, has his date of birth as 2 June 1810, Wallingford, VT.
