    Notes:

    In the Federal Census of 1870, the family is at Otto, Cattaraugus Co., NY: Peter 27 NY, Alzada 25 NY, Matilda 6 NY, & Henrietta 2 NY. Peter is a farmer. Also in the household are Amasa Force 41 and Valentine Rablin 36, both carpenters.

    In the Federal Census of 1800, the family is at Evart, Osceola Co., MI. Peter's occupation is river driving. Alzada is Lucy A. Comstock.

    In 1900 Peter and Lucy A. Comstock are still at Evart, MI.

    Peter married Lucy Alzada Remington Abt 1863, NY. Lucy (daughter of Ransom Remington and Matilda Eddy) was born Dec 1845, NY; died 16 Jan 1922, MI; was buried , Evart, Osceola Co., MI. [Group Sheet]

    In the Federal Census of 1910, Lucy Comstock is a widow living at Evart, Osceola Co., MI.

    In the Federal Census of 1920, Lucy A. Comstock is a widow age 73, still living at Evert, Osceola Co., MI,. with married daughter Matilda Adams and her husband Frank.

    Notes:

    Several family trees at Rootsweb's Worldconnect show that Abner may have had two or three wives. Jane is his wife in the Federal Census of 1850 at Persia, Cattaraugus Co., NY. Three of their children are in the household: David C. 12, Peter 10, and Ellen 7; also Franklin Wilkins 4 (in 1860 he is Franklin Comstock age 14).

  3. 14.  Ransom Remington was born Between 1792 and 1795, VT (son of Stephen Remington and Thankful Hill); died 24 May 1884, Dayton, Cattaraugus Co., NY.

    Notes:

    In the Federal Census of 1850, Ransom & Matilda Remington, ages 52 VT & 49 MA, are living at Dayton, Cattaraugus Co., NY. They have seven children in the household: Silas 18, Laura 15, Adaline 13, Emerson 11, Emery 8, Olive 8, & Alzada 5.

    In the Federal Census of 1860, Ransom & Matilda Remington, ages 63 & 60, are still living at Dayton. Four children are in the household: Emmerson 21, Emma J. 18, Alzada 15, and Eri 12. (Eri is named in Ransom's will, but I believe he is a grandson, based on the obituary for Arvilla, wife of Charles -- unless there were two individuals named Eri born around the same year)

    In the Federal Census of 1870, Ransom & Matilda Remington, ages 73 VT & 65 MA, are still living at Dayton, Cattaraugus Co., NY. They are next to Silas & Arvilla Remington and family.

    In the Federal Census of 1880, Ransom Remington is age 86 VT (VT/VT), still living at Dayton, Cattaraugus Co., NY. He is living with son-in-law David Comstock and family.

    Ransom's will, made in 1881, says he was 86 years old at that time. If true, he was born c 1795. (source: D. Rockwell, a descendant)

    Nancy Olejniczak sent me a copy of a "Petition for Proof of Will, to the Surrogate of the County of Cattaraugus." This document refers to Ransom's will dated 3 Oct 1881. This will appointed as Executors Francis E. Haines and Emery Jane Comstock. The document lists all the heirs and next of kin of Ransom, along with their places of residence. Listed are: Lewis Remington, Hiram Remington, Arminal (?) Bunstow, Emerson Remington, Adaline Rockwell, Olive Robinson, Emory Jane Comstock, Silas Remington, Alzada Comstock, Eri Remington, Silas Remington, and Laura S. Chattuck. Also listed are numerous grandchildren. [My note -- these last three are grandchildren -- children of son Charles who died bef. 1855)

    "There is no stone for Ransom. Cemetery records show that he owned a plot of eight graves but do not indicate who was buried there. The only stones in the area are for his wife Matilda and son Emerson. Lacking other proof, it is assumed that Ransom was buried here next to his wife. Ransom came to Dayton in the early 1830s from Marcellus, Onondaga Co., NY. His brother Orange arrived at about the same time and they might have traveled together."

    Ransom married Matilda Eddy Abt 1818, VT. Matilda was born Abt 1800, MA; died 13 Dec 1873, NY; was buried , Markhams Cemetery, Dayton, Cattaraugus Co., NY. [Group Sheet]
