This is a confusing death record or announcement: ARNOLD Samuel Greene, of Welcome and Patience, d. Sept. 5, 1778; Providence. Perhaps after he died, their other son already born was named for this one who died? See notes for siblings.

ARNOLD Welcome, of Jonathan, of Smithfield, and Patience Greene, of Capt. Samuel, dec., of Warwick, at Warwick, Feb. 11, 1773. (Providence Records)

It appears that Welcome and Patience had two sons; the older one died after the younger one was about 7 months old, so they named the second the same name -- Samuel Greene Arnold. Samuel Greene was the name of Patience's father.

Jonathan's will was proved 7 Feb 1797, Smithfield. It mentions wife Abigail and seven children: Welcome, Jonathan, Aza, Thomas, Marcy Dexter (widow), Elizabeth (w/o Samuel Arnold), and Abigail Arnold.

He may have been s/o Thomas Arnold and Elizabeth Burlingame (see elsewhere on this tree).

Some of the chilidren's births were recorded; I have estimated the birth years of the others.
