    Notes:

    I have estimated Robert's birth year.

    On 12 July 1690 Robert calls himself son & heir of Jonathan, dec'd; sold Peter Greene 6 acres. On 17 Sep 1711 Robert's widow, Mary Sweet, who had remarried to James Sweet, had a legacy from her mother's will. (see Austin's Genealogical Dictionary of RI, p. 98)

    These 7 children of Robert & Mary are mentioned by name in the will dated 17 Sep 1711 of their maternal grandmother, Mary Pearce.

    Robert married Mary Pearce Abt 1680. Mary (daughter of John Pearce and Mary Unknown) was born Abt 1661. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    Mary is mentioned in the wills of both of her parents. The 23 Sep 1689 will of John Pearce of Prudence Island mentions his daughter Mary Hill. The 17 Sep 1711 will of Mary Peace of Prudence Island mentions her sons John & Daniel Pearce, and her daughter Mary Sweet, formerly the wife of Robert Hill. She also names Mary's children by Robert.

  1. 8.  Jonathan HILL, Sr. was born Abt Jun 1640, Dorchester, Suffolk Co., MA (son of John HILL and Frances TILLESTON); died Bef Jul 1690, Prudence Island, Newport Co., RI.

    Notes:

    Note: I am not absulutely sure that Jonathan Hill of RI is a son of John & Frances Hill. However, I have linked him to this couple based on genealogical information sent to me by Hill descendants.

    Jonathan & Mary Hill lived at Warwick, Portsmouth, and Prudence Island.

    Jonathan & Mary may have had another son named Thomas in the early 1650s, as the book "The History of East Greenwich" tells of a Thomas Hill who was in Potowomut by 1680, in business partnership with James Greene.

    Jonathan may have been born earlier than 1640, possibly closer to 1630.

    It is believed that Jonathan married twice, to two women named Mary: Mary Sharwood (Sherwood) and Mary Bassett.

    From another genealogy: This or another Jonathan Hill may have died 2 Feb 1710, and his wife died 12 Sep 1715. (This needs more research.)

    Notes:

    John's will dated 23 Sep 1689 mentions his daughter Mary Hill, wife of Robert.

    I have made an assumption that John died at Prudence Island, his place of residence.

    John married Mary Unknown Abt 1656. Mary was born Abt 1636; died Abt Oct 1711, Prudence Island, RI. [Group Sheet]
