In 1910 Mildred appears to be age 14, living in Coventry with an aunt and uncle, the Steadmans.

According to the 1900 census, the family is living in Coventry as follows: Thomas W. Lewis 31 RI carpenter (parents born RI/Scot), Hattie L. 22 RI (parents born RI), Jesse A. son 4 RI, Mildred F. dtr 1 RI.

I can't find Thomas in the 1910 census, when his wife is living in North Kingstown and the three children are all in different homes.

In 1920 Thomas is living in Sterling, CT, age 52 and married; he is a carpenter.

According to the death record at Coventry, Thomas was born in Richmond and died at age 78 y 7 m 3 d; residence Flat River Rd., Coventry Center. He was a self-employed cabinet maker/carpenter for 50 years, having retired about 1935. Cause of death was carcinoma of the stomach.

Thomas married Hattie Luella James Abt. 1895. Hattie (daughter of William Reynolds James and Harriet F. Grinnell) was born 11 Aug 1877, RI; died 4 Jun 1924, West Greenwich, RI; was buried , Elmgrove Cemetery, North Kingstown, RI. [Group Sheet]

In 1910 Hattie Lewis is age 31, married, and living in North Kingstown. She works at a woolen mill. With her is Jessie Lewis, 14 (daughter ?), and a boarder -- Calvin Madison, 27 RI. Mildred appears to be age 14 living with an aunt and uncle in Coventry, and son Edgar is age 8 in Exeter. I don't know where husband Thomas is; perhaps they are separated.

The death record gives her date of birth as 11 Aug 1876 at Kingston, RI; she died at age 47 y 9 m 24 d. Her name is given as Hattie Lula Lewis, residence Nooseneck Hill Rd. Cause of death was uterine cancer. The informant was her daughter, Mrs. Sherman Rockwell.

In 1870 the family is living in Richmond: John H. Lewis, 33 farmer, RI; Josie J. 31 keeping house, Scotland; Thomas W. 2 RI; Amy J. 4/12 (born Feb) RI. In 1880 they are still in Richmond with another daughter, Minnie age 2; Amy is listed as Anna J.

John married Jessie J. Irvine 3 Mar 1867, Charlestown, RI. Jessie was born abt. 1848, Scotland; died 16 Apr 1883, Lafayette, RI; was buried , Queens River Baptist Cemetery, South Kingstown, RI. [Group Sheet]

In the 1870 census she is named as Josie J. Lewis, age 31, born Scotland.

In the 1880 census, William and Harriet are living in Exeter with his parents and the two young children.

According to the death record, William died at age 82 y 0 m 30 d. He was a retired farmer/cattle dealer. Cause of death was heart disease. Parents are identified as Simeon D. James and Elizabeth Locke, both born Exeter; his wife is named as Harriet F. Grinnell. Son Albert was the informant.

William married Harriet F. Grinnell Abt. 1876. Harriet (daughter of Isaac Clark Grinnell and Harriet Newell Sherman) was born 6 Aug 1859, Exeter, RI; died 20 Oct 1906, Hopkinton, RI; was buried , Elmgrove Cemetery, North Kingstown, RI. [Group Sheet]

In 1860 and 1870 the family is living in Exeter, RI. In 1880 Isaac is age 42, living in Exeter; his son Lewis C. age 12 is with him. It appears from census data that Isaac and Harriet are divorced.

Isaac died at age 88 y 5 m 15 d. His wife as named at the time was Sarah L. Essex.

Isaac married Harriet Newell Sherman Abt. 1859. Harriet (daughter of George G. Sherman and Martha N. Holloway) was born Abt. 1844, Exeter, RI; died 22 Jun 1923, Exeter, RI. [Group Sheet]
