3103 In 1870, although the census was to be as of June 1st, the census was taken on July 11th, shortly after Joseph had gotten married on June 16th. The Hart family is living next door in Cranston, RI, and Joseph & Josephine are each shown in his/her own parents' home, although Josephine is called Josephine Remington.

Joseph & Josephine's family, including their six children, is in the 1880 Federal Census at Cranston, RI, on the east side of Broad St. The youngest son has not yet been named. I believe this must be Lawrence.

Joseph F. Remington and his son E. T. Remington are living in Warwick, RI, in 1910.

From "Death Notices" at RI Historical Society Library: Joseph F. Remington, 66th yr., 5 Aug 1913, at Pawtuxet.

He may have been named for Dr. Joseph Warren Fearing, an esteemed physician for 32 years in Providence. I don't know if there was any family connection.

According to the obituary, Lamartine Z. Remington died of consumption.
Remington, Lamartine Zetto (I08544)

3116 In 1875, Ferdinand H. Remington is age 7, living with his father, stepmother, and stepsister Annie, in Providence, RI. In 1880, Ferdinand is age 13, boarding with his aunt Harriet A. (Remington) Brightman and other family members, in Providence, RI. In the 1920 Federal Census, Ferdinand, age 51, & his wife Carrie, age 47, are living in Providence, RI. They are still at Providence in 1930, when Ferdinand is 60 and Ethelinda is 59. However, I think she must be the same wife, because in both censuses it says her father was born in Connecticut and her mother in Maine. This is confirmed by the marriage record, which has her name as Carrie E. Williams. Remington, Ferdinand Allerton (I14687)

In the Federal Census of 1910, he is Charles D. Remington, age 53, living at Chestertown, Warren, NY. His wife, Cordie M., is and two daughters, Bertha P. 19 & Helene 15.

One would think that Cora and Cordie are the same wife. However, their ages differ so much in the censuses. Also, the 1900 census says Charles & Cordie have been married 15 years, which would be 1885. Lastly, the 1910 census says this is Charles's second marriage and Cordie's first; they have been married 25 years, and she has had four children.

Grace's birthplace is given as MI, and her parents' birthplaces are given as VT/Scotland. Her husband is Frank, age 41 OH, and they have been married 16 years. Children in the household are: May 15, Robert A. 13, Ella B. 10, Ralph 8, Roy 6, Hannah 3, & Addie 10/12. The first four were born in SD, while the three youngest were born in OK.

Jones; they were succeeded by P. D. Jones alone, and he by W. B. W. Hallett. Soon afterwards C. C. Corbett and Orville Remington became the owners, and the Dispatch Publishing Company was formed. During the year 1890 the establishment passed to ownership of E. A. Corbett, who still continues it as a weekly." (from "The Printer and the Press", by H. P. 3141 In 1891 Ann is a widow, still at 47 Union St., Mansfield. With her are children Alfred 22, Arthur 20, & Ellen 16. Also in the household is William Slack, 21, a lodger. Is this her son William?

She is probably the Ann Slack, age 64, living with Arthur & Eliza Slack in the 1901 census. She is identified as Arthur's mother.
Unknown, Ann (I09395)

3142 In 1891 the family is living at 19 Rookery, Mansfield. Also nearby on the same street are Gilbert & Hannah Slack and their family. I suspect that these two men, James & Gilbert, are brothers, the sons of Samuel & Eliza, because this couple had two sons of these names which fit their ages in the census. However, since there were several Gilberts born at Mansfield within a few years of each other, I can not be certain.

Also on the street is a Hannah Slack, widow, age 74, a seamstress. I am not sure who she is.

Remington, Mary Ann (I07912)

3145 In 1900 she is Maria L.; in 1910 she is Eliza M. The age and state of birth are consistent, so I have assumed she is the same wife.

In the 1920 census her name appears to be Louisa. The gravestone says Louisa M. and has her year of birth as 1858.
Unknown, Louisa Maria (I19447)

3146 In 1900 Simeon S. Remington is age 17, living at Quitman, Brooks Co., GA, with his uncle Charles and other family members. I have made an assumption that Simeon is a son of Simeon. Remington, Simeon S. (I15950)
