In the 1900 census, Orrin and family are living on Prospect St. in Ridgewood, Bergen Co., NJ. Julia Allis, Martha's mother, age 81, is also with them. In 1910 Orrin D. Remington is a boarder in Huntington, Hampshire Co., MA. His wife and children are still living at Ridgewood, Bergen Co., NJ. In 1920 Orin D. Remington is age 85, married, living at Blandford, Hampden, MA. His family is not with him. According to Lois Remington Smith in "The Remington Family" p. 39, Orrin enlisted in the Civil War at Dedham on 17 Sep 1861, and was discharged at Boston on 7 Nov 1864. He may be the Peleg Remington, age 30, b RI, a lodger/clerk in store, living at San Francisco, CA, in the 1880 Federal Census. However, Peleg R. Remington, age 37, is listed with his parents in 1880, living at Cranston, RI; so, unless he had gone to CA and was counted/listed twice, the one in CA must be a different one (?). 3910	In the 1880 Federal Census, Philip is living with his wife and three children at Leavenworth Military Reservation, Leavenworth, Kansas. The census record is a bit difficult to read, but I have included the names of his wife and children as best as I could make them out. Philip graduated from the US Military Academy 24 June 1861 and was assigned to the 8th Infantry; age at date of admission on 1 July 1857: 18 y 6 m; state of IL (source: Google Books). "Biographical Register of the Officers and Graduates of the US Military" has more details on his military service; also "Annual Reunion" by United States Military Academy Association of Graduates, p 66, has a brief bio. After his Civil War service, Philip served with the 19th Infantry in Texas, Kansas, Colorado, and Michigan. Apparently he was not in good health because he had three sick leaves between 1883 and 1889. He was commanding officer at Fort Davis from 13 Nov to 15 Dec 1889 (http://www.nps.gov/history/history/online_books/hh/38/hh38ab.htm). Note from Randal W. Cooper: "He received his appointment to West Point while he was a resident of Illinois." Notes from Bob Cuellar: "He entered West Point in 1857 and graduated 1861. He served during the Civil War and the Indian wars. He was commander of Fort Dodge under the 19th US Calvary from 13 Nov 1889 to 15 Dec 1889. He received a medical retirement in 1891 and died that same year on 17 Dec 1891. After his death his wife Lizzie F. Remington sued the government for back pay. 3912	In the 1880 Federal Census, Rhoda and her husband Joel Remington are living at Waterbury, Washington Co., VT. With them is Joel's stepdaughter, therefore presumably Rhoda's daughter by a previous marriage: Minnie Rand, age 15. Further research confirms this: in the 1870 Federal Census, S.H. & Rhoda W. 3915	In the 1880 Federal Census, Samuel & Ansurilla, both aged 37, are living at Huntington, Chittenden Co., VT. They have one daughter, Agnes R., 5; also boarding with them is mother-in-law Adeline Remington, 68. In 1900 they are still at Huntington, VT: Samuel 57 (b Apr 1843), Ansurilla 56 (b Nov 1843), Adeline M. 21 (b Aug 1878), & Grace I. 12 (b Nov 1887). According to descendant Gretchen Paulsen, Samuel fought in the Civil War, and went westward to pan for gold. Tragically, a couple of weeks after his wife died, Samuel was kicked in the head by a horse and also died. Disease causing death: Traumatic Peritonis (Kicked by a horse).	Randall, Samuel J. (I18326)

3926	In the 1880 Federal Census, the family is at Providence, RI, next door to Sarah's parents and sister. In the 1908 state elections, Louis E. Remington was a prohibition candidate for Governor. Louis E. Remington died after slipping under a train while attempting to board. One of his legs was cut off above the ankle. He was taken to the hospital, but soon died there. 3935	In the 1880 Federal Census, the family is living in District 51, Providence, RI. They are: Silas D. Davis, 39 MA, cabinet maker; Ellen M., 37 RI; Lizzie C., 11 RI; Grace I., 4 RI; Ina S., 2 RI; & Hellen D., 5 mos, b. Jan, RI. With the gap in the children's ages, one wonders if Ellen is a second wife, or if one or more children died in infancy. In 1920, Silas is 80 years old, widowed, and living in Westport, Bristol Co., MA. He, along with his adult daughters Grace and Ina, are living with Lizzie and her husband Amasa E. Remington. Silas's occupation is still cabinet maker. He may have been a Jr. There is a family in 1860 living in Charlestown, Middlesex, MA, which may be his: Silas Davis, 42, trader; Mercy E. 41; Silas, Jr., 18, clerk; Lizzie M., 13; & Samuel, 5 (all b. William's family Bible is in the possession of one of his descendants, and copies of some of the family pages were given to me by Joyce (Remington) Gallup. On one page is written: "The Property of William R. Remington presented to him by his Mother Sarah Remington as a New Years gift Jan 1851." He would have been 23 years old. He may have been the William R. Remington who was a Justice of the Peace at Warwick.
