4751 In various places her name has been spelled as Annloire, Anneloire, Ann Louisa, and Ann L. The Remington genealogy from Virginia Adair (and given to the Roger Williams Family Association) has Louisa, b1800, marrying George Moore. It also lists another sister named "Samiloire" who supposedly also married George Moore. According to James N. Arnold's transcription of the Cranston records, the two were married on the exact same date, but two years apart. It seems clear to me that this is the same individual, and that there must have been an error in the transcription, perhaps recorded some time afterwards. In the 1860 Federal Census, George & Ann L. Moore are living in Providence, RI. Her age fits "Louisa" in the typed genealogy from Mrs. Adair.

Also, the RI Cemetery Database has her name as Ann Louisa (Remington) Morse, d/o Capt. Charles Remington, and w/o George Morse. Possibly Moore was misread on the gravestone as Morse.

However, their marriage announcement in the Providence Phenix identifies the couple as Ann Louisa Remington & George Morse.

The marriage record says she was "of Charles."

"The daughter of King Edward I and Eleanor of Castile, she was born at Acre, Israel, while her father was on crusade. She married Gilbert of Clare, 3rd Earl of Gloucester on April 30, 1290 at Westminster Abbey. They had 4 children before Gilbert's death in 1295. She then married Ralph Monthermer, 1st Baron Monthermer, a knight in her household, in 1297 without her father's consent. Enraged at his daughter's lowly second marriage, Edward I had Monthermer thrown in prison. Joan begged for his release, and the king relented, giving Monthermer the title Earl of Gloucester. Joan died at her manor in Clare at the age of 35. Though the exact cause of her death is unknown, some historians have recently theorized she may have died giving birth to a fifth child by Monthermer. The remains of an altar recess on the ruins of the south wall of the abbey are thought to be Joan's tomb. A friar reported that in 1359, Joan's daughter Elizabeth DeBurgh inspected her mother's tomb and found the remains to be incorrupt. Since then, there have been reports of miraculous healing of toothache, fever, and back pain there." (bio by: Kristen Conrad -- spelling and punctuation correct by Lois Sorensen)

4758 Information concerning her surname came from "Family Notes," a group of unpublished manuscripts compiled by James N. Arnold, and located at the Knight Library in Providence. This gives her birthdate as 20 May 1722, while Maytum's notes at Newport Historical Society says 20 Jul 1722. Arnold gives her date of death as 17 Mar 1817, while Maytum gives it as 17 May 1817. Neither gives a source as documentation.

She is also mentioned as Freelove Allen, wife of William Remington, on the back of an old photo of George Wait Remington, as his great-grandmother.

Could she be a daughter of William & Freelove (Tillinghast) Allen? They had a daughter Patience who married William Maccoone on 2 April 1738. Freelove would definitely fit into this time frame for their family group. (needs more research)

She could easily be a daughter of one of the Allen families from Prudence Island, as the land evidence from Portsmouth mentions a William Remington of Prudence Island who had a wife named Freelove (Portsmouth land evidence dated 25 Dec 1764, Bk 6 p. 123 & 126).

Son Hezekiah had a grandson named Stephen Allen Remington, so the Allen name reoccurs in the family.

4764 Information on Alfred Southmayd, his marriage to Aurelia, and their family came from T. Dowling's family tree at Rootsweb's Worldconnect. This tree shows Alfred's parents as Samuel B. Southmayd of Middlesex Co., CT; and Martha Rathbone of Cayuga Co., NY.

My notes:

In the Federal Census of 1860, Alfred & Aurelia, ages 40 & 26, are living at Alma, Allegany Co., NY. Aurelia's brother Allen 17 appears to be living with them; married sister Caroline Barron and family are also close by.

In the Federal Census of 1870, A. R. is 49 and Aurelia is 36. They are living at Oak Grove, Eau Claire Co., WI. With them are: Martha Southmayd 72, and Frank Southmayd 11 (in 1880 we find that he is their adopted son).

In the Federal Census of 1880, Alfred R. & Aurelia H. Southmaid, ages 60 & 46, are living at Wheaton, Chippewa Co., WI. With them is adopted son Frank M. 21; also a servant and a boarder.

According to a family tree at Rootsweb's Worldconnect, Allen & Elva parted ways and she remarried to Eugene Mayo by about 1884 (this needs more research to confirm).

4773 Information on Elizabeth/Betsey as a daughter of Jonathan came ot me from Mary Lou Raftery. This needs more research. Remington, Elizabeth Betsey (I23922)

Andrew was of Northbridge, MA, when he married his second wife Betsey.

I am fairly sure that these records pertain to this particular Andrew Adams:

Henry Tibbetts, Senior is on a list of taxes under Gov. Andros, dated 6 Sept 1687, assessing estates of the Towne of Rochester in the King's Province.

The will of Henry Tibbets was dated 27 Nov 1708 at North Kingstown. Some portions of it are burned, but as near as can be determined, it mentions the following individuals: his wife Sarah; three sons -- George, John, & Henry (dec'd, leaving widow/d-in-law Reb____); three daughters -- Mary Green w/o Edward, Sarah Hall, & ____ha Stanton w/o Benjamin; three grandsons -- Thomas, Henry, & William; three granddaughters, d/o son Henry -- Rebecah, Avis & Dinah; and one other granddaughter -- Anna Fones, d/o S_____; also mentioned is William Tanner who rec'd land (poss. grandson or son-in-law).

From North Kingstown land evidence: Henry Tibbits deeded, by gift after his decease, land to William Tanner, as given to William Tanner in Henry's last will. Land bounded by George Tibbits, etc. (date lost -- possibly 1710).
