5651 | Nellie was d/o Charles Parman & Estella Drew. | Parman, Nellie M. (I25082)

5653 | Nelson's occupation was a miller, so he most likely took over his father's business, the flour mill. Both Nelson and his son Harvey served in the Civil War. In the Federal Census of 1850, Nelson 26, Mary H. 30, & Harvey B. Remington 1, are living at Colesville, Broome Co., NY. They are next to a family named Wykoff. In 1860 the family is at Franklin, Delaware Co., NY. Nelson & Mary are ages 38 & 40. They have two children, Harvey B. 11 & Julia E. 8 (all b NY). Also in the same town are Seba Remington (presumably Nelson's brother) and his wife Julia. In the 1870 Federal Census, Nelson apparently has remarried to Lucretia, and they are living at Franklin; with them is son Harvey 21. Nelson is 49 and Lucretia is 32. In the 1880 Federal Census, Nelson Remington is age 58 NY, living with son Harvey & family at Hamden, Delaware Co., NY. Census data shows his parents as being born in Eng. & CT, but perhaps he said his father was born somewhere in "New England." | Remington, Nelson (I20160)

5654 | New Bedford files (seamen's insurance records) show that Abner Remington b. Tiverton, RI, applied for insurance three times: on 16 Dec 1840 he was age 21, 5'4", and said to have a light complexion, brown hair, and blue eyes; on 22 Nov 1848 he was age 28, 5' 4 3/4" and was described as having a light complexion, brown hair, and grey eyes. Another record dated 2 Dec 1848 again shows him to be age 28, but is described as having dark skin, dark hair, and dark eyes. One can only speculate why there are two applications so close together, and why he is described differently, even though the age and birthplace are the same. Two of the descriptions more or less agree. Abner's last voyage on record ended in 1860, so he must have headed out to Michigan right after that. In the 1860 Federal Census, he is age 37, a sailor, and living at Fenton, MI, with brother William and his family. He was married in Michigan in 1863, and he is in the 1870 census for Fenton, Genesee County, MI, with his wife Eliza and two youngest daughters, Minnie 6 & Alice 2, apparently living next door to his nephew Eben and family. In the 1860 census, Abner is also listed at New Bedford, MA, living with sister Phebe Pearce and three of her children. The census gives his age as 41, b RI. In the 1880 Federal Census, Abner, Eliza, and daughter Alice (the second Alice), 8, are living at Mundy, Genesee Co., MI. Also in the household are Thomas Steel, age 4, stepson; and John Hunt, 20. His obituary in The Fenton Independent: "Abner Remington, age 80, a resident of Fenton about 50 years, died 6 March 1900 at the home of his nephew, Ebin Remington. Born in New Bedford, MA, during young manhood he was a sailor, making several trips to the whaling grounds. After retiring from the sea, he came to Fenton and purchased a farm in Mundy." One genealogy at Rootsweb has his date of birth as 13 March 1820 (re: Kim Hawkins). | Remington, Abner (I05165)

5686 | Norman lived in Macomb County & Lapeer County, MI. In the 1850 Federal Census, Norman & Polly are living at Ray, Macomb Co., MI, with their son "Reubin" and Norman's father "Dan." In 1870, they are still there, with four children: Reuben, Rufus, Almira, and Elwin/Elmer. Also in the home is Maria Remington, age 56, b NY. Probably this is Norman's sister-in-law, Mariah. In 1880, Norman is living at Oregon, Lapeer Co., MI, with his daughter Palmyra and her husband Robert Metcalf and their three children. Elmer Remington, age 12, is also there. 5691 | Note at Rootsweb from descendant Margaret Fish: "I descend from Col. Thaddeus Remington of C'd'g'a, through son Thad Jr., and his daughter Mary. And finally, after 9 years, found a book which verifies he was married in Granby, Conn. (near Suffield) to Betsy Root (some NY books said Nelson) on Jan. 28, 1793. He died 19 Sept. 1838 and Betsy died 24 Dec. 1855." "Overlooking Centerfield was the home of Colonel Thaddeus Remington, the maternal grandparent, who had given his own name to the hill upon which he had built his log-house in 1798. Colonel Remington was the eldest of three brothers who came from Vermont, where the traditions of the family run back until they are lost to record. By his solicitations two younger brothers, who had come from Vermont to Connecticut, were induced to come west to make a settlement, and one of them selected Henrietta and the other Mumford, in Monroe county." Peck, 1884, pp 718 - 723; posted on NYGenweb, biography of George Raines) From the 1800 Federal Census: Thadeus Rimmington, Canandaigua, Ontario, NY | Remington, Col. Thaddeus Sr. (I08358)

5693 | Note from findagrave.com: She is known to be a grandchild of Governor John Wanton of Rhode Island, but there is no certainty of who her parents were. She received a legacy of 420 pounds in her grandfather's will [I have not been able to verify that]. There is a brief newspaper account of her death, listing her as "Marcy Cook, wife of Captain Peter of Foster." The bequest of 450 pounds to granddaughter Mary Wanton is found in the will of Edward Wanton, not Gov. John Wanton (see the Genealogical Dictionary of RI by John Osborne Austin p 215 at Google Books). I have made an assumption that she is d/o John Wanton (s/o John) and Ann Redwood (d/o Abraham). They had a daughter Ann b c 1727? who married Job Randall in Scituate. (see Supplement to Descendants to Roger Williams Book I Waterman Line, compiled by Dorothy Higson White, Roger Williams Family Assoc. 2003, p 9.) There is a family connection to Scituate, and also Peter and Mercy named a son John Wanton Cook. From James N. Arnold's Vital Record of RI: COOKE Mrs. Marcy, wife of Capt. Peter, in 61st year, at Foster. She has had 99 children and grandchildren, 78 of whom are now living. [Note. We think there must be a mistake in the age given here. J. N. A.] Feb. 20, 1789; Town Page Detail: Providence (newspaper report). Findagrave.com lists five children for Peter & Marcy but I think there may have been at least three more, births recorded at Providence: Rhoda 1749, Elizabeth 1751, and Christopher 1753. The children listed at findagrave.com are: Susanna, Charles 1747, Constant 1758, John 1762, and Hope 1764. The above three children recorded in Provdience fit into this list. Note that Mary, Marcy, and Mercy are sometimes interchangeable in the old records. | Wanton, Mercy (I27383)

5694 | Note from Keith Manchester: "It is now known what Job Manchester's (1663-1713) wife's last name is: Archer. This paper shows that Hannah (unknown) was Hannah Archer, sister of John Archer." | Archer, Hannah (I01797)
