6001 Possibly she is the Phebe Tibbits who married David Willington on 22 Feb 1795 in Cheshire, MA. (See "Cheshire, Berkshire County, MA Marriages, from Early MA Marriages," by Frederick W. Bailey -- at the RI Historical Library.)

Or, could she be Phebe who married our ancestor Jonathan Remington?
Tibbetts, Phebe (I03235)

6002 Possibly she married first to James Diman. See notes for her first husband, Mr. Diman. Wyatt, Elizabeth M. (I11873)

6003 Possibly she was the daughter of Jonathan & Assa Tibbetts of East Greenwich, as she fits into this time frame. Tibbetts, Hannah (I06172)

6004 Possiby Mary had a daughter before she was married. In the 1851 census, Samuel & Mary Coleman have, in addition to their four children, a "daughter-in-law" (stepdaughter?) named Ellen Greaves, age 19. She could be another relative that they have taken in, and possible the 1-year-old baby is hers. Greaves, Mary (I06522)

6005 Potter John, and Sarah Collins, widow ; m. by John Greene, Justice, Jan. 7, 1684-5 (Warwick VRs). Family: John Potter / Sarah Wright (F07800)

6006 Potter Oliver, of Scituate, and Mary Colvin, of Benjamin, of Coventry; m. by Stephen Potter, Justice, Oct. 17, 1757. (Marriage Vol. 1 : Pg. 127 Coventry, RI) Family: Robert Potter / Tabitha Knight (F09352)

6007 POTTER, CHARLES V. 1899 - 30 JAN 1990 RI001
POTTER, CHARLES VICTOR 1899 - 30 JAN 1990 PV003
Potter, Charles V. (I14373)

6008 Potter, John, of William, and Sarah Ellis, of Benjamin; m. by Joseph Davis, Justice, March 1, 1795 Family: John Potter / Sarah Ellis (F10029)

6009 Potter, Robert, of William, and Sarah Mackoon, of James; m. by Elder John Westcott, Nov. 1, 1792 Family: Robert Potter / Sarah Mackoon (F10032)

6010 Previously I read that when Francis West married Sarah, she was the widow of a Mr. Millard. However, now the Mayflower Society has determined that her maiden name was Sarah Hillard or Hillier.

The Soule website has her maiden name as Downing.
HILLARD, Sarah (I11912)

6011 Priscilla Bacon was a 6th-generation descendant of Priscilla Alden. Bacon, Priscilla (I12787)

6012 Priscilla is a descendant of John Alden & Priscilla Mullins. Taber, Priscilla (I17059)

6013 Priscilla married and settled in New York State (according to the book "Representative Men and Old Families of Rhode Island," p. 1188f). Hambly, Priscilla (I00747)

6014 Priscilla Warren died at nearly 74 years of age. Faunce, Priscilla (I17978)

6015 Probably Emma was born of Robert's first marriage, because she was born in Canada, and also Palmyra would have been too young to be her mother. Metcalf, Emma (I12898)

6016 Probably his full name was Stephen Remington Sheldon. Sheldon, Stephen R. (I10724)

6017 Probably Joanna's husband was of the Tanner family of Rhode Island, as was Esther Tanner, who married John Wellwood. John & Esther's son James married Sally, Joanna's sister. See notes for James A. Wellwood and Esther Tanner, elsewhere on this family tree.

I am wondering if Joanna was widowed young, or divorced. She appears to be the Joanna Remington in the 1850 census, age 40, living with James & Sally Wellwood and family at Oswego, NY. If so, Sally is Joanna's sister. Joanna's age is off about 8 years -- not uncommon for a woman's age in the census. (Joanna needs more research.)
Remington, Joanna (I08976)

6018 Probably Josiah married his first cousin. Elizabeth was very likely the daughter of his uncle Elisha Arnold. The marriage record names the fathers of both Josiah & Elizabeth.. Arnold, Josiah (I03945)

6019 Probably this was the Sylvester Northup who moved to Exeter from North Kingstown, and was mentioned in the Exeter Town Council records on 12 Jan 1754, being summoned to appear at the next meeting to account for his residence in town. At the next meeting he was accepted as a resident of Exeter, on 12 Feb 1754. This signifies that he must have had some means of livlihood, or else he would have been sent back to North Kingstown.

He may have been a son of Joseph Northup, c1665 - 1726, who married Hopestill Smith; or he may be a son of Henry Northup, who was born c1688 - 1741-59. This Henry may have married Mary Eldred and/or Hopestill (Smith) Northup, widow of Joseph.

The names of Sylvester's children were obtained from genealogy notes belonging to Adeline King, but need research to confirm.

I have not been able to find any definitive data on this family, other than my notes above. It has been suggested that Sylvester II may have been orphaned or for some other reason raised by relatives, possibly Gideon & Avis Northup.
Northup, Sylvester I (I13988)

6020 Providence Daily Journal, Friday, 15 Apr 1864: "MARRIED - in this city, 14th inst, by Rev. Augustus Woodbury, Mr. Benjamin F. Remington, Jr., and Miss Emily R., daughter of Hon. Seth Padelford, all of this city." Family: Benjamin Franklin Remington / Emily Rhodes Padelford (F01556)

6021 Providence records as transcribed by James N. Arnold, gives his surname as Johnston.

In the 1850 Federal Census, Nicholas & Sally R. are living at Cranston, RI. The household includes Sally's brother Richard and his family, and their mother Sally Greene, 85.
Johnson, Captain Nicholas (I02424)

6022 Prudence Bell as the wife of Dennis Remington came from Sandy Zagarella in a posting at Rootsweb's Remington mailing list/message board. (quote from Sandy: "I have the marriage cert. for Dennis Remington and Prudence and her last name is Bell.")

In the Federal Census of 1900, Prudence Remington is age 54 and a widow, living at Hackberry, Labette Co., KS. Her three sons and their families are with her and/or next door.
Bell, Prudence (I22617)

6023 Prudence's date of death is given as 18 Jan, but no year. It is implied that it was the same year as her husband William, whose date of death is just above it, but I can't be sure. Unknown, Prudence (I27624)

6024 Prudence's dates of birth and death were obtained at: http://www.gravesfa.org/gen337.htm Morris, Prudence (I08235)

His will is dated 19 Nov 1673, proved 14 Nov 1677, Portsmouth, RI. The will names his wife as Jane, but sometimes it is given as Joan. His five children and one grandson are mentioned in this will. The RI Cemetery Database says his grave is in Freeborn Brayton Lot, Seven Mile Rd., Cranston, RI. However, there's a memorial stone for him and his wife at the Greenwood Cemetery, CY59, Fairview Ave., Coventry. Probably their graves were moved there in recent years.
