| William Bailey was made freeman of East Greenwich on 2 May 1721. | BAILEY, William (I00372)
| William came from a family of 14 siblings. Born in Rhode Island, he moved to New Bedford, MA, then to Dutchess County and Ulster County, NY. He came to Michigan from Kingston, NY, in 1835 with his wife Jane. His trip from New York State was by canal to Buffalo, then by boat to Detroit and by foot to Fenton. (Information from Thomas Lavery, a descendant) In the 1860 Federal Census, William & Jane Remington are living at Fenton, Genesee Co., MI. They have three children: Edwin (Eben) 23, John 19, & Jane (Jennie) 16. Also with them is brother Abner Remington, 37, a sailor. The 1870 census shows William at age 61 & his wife Jane living in the Village of Fenton, Genesee County, MI, with his extended family. In the household are Edward H. White & Eliza J. with their three children: Jessie A., Mabel P., & Edward H. Jr.; along with two domestic servants, a farm hand, and another man -- possibly a boarder or relative. Next door are John Remington (his son) with wife Emily and son Jay C. (see Roll 671 p. 1000 R Wm Remington; online census images) In 1880 William is 71 and Jane is 72. They are still at Fenton, MI, living near and with family members. The obituary in The Fenton Independent, 29 Apr 1897: "William Remington, probably the oldest pioneer of this township, at his home in the northern part of the village. He was born in Tiverton, Rhode Island, in 1809, one of a family of 14 children, all of whom are dead but one brother, Abner, of Mundy. He with his wife, Jane Broadhead, came from Kingston, New York, in 1835, taking up land in a then unbroken wilderness on the banks of the Shiawassee. At one time he owned 500 acres of land, on which a good portion of Fenton now stands. Three children survive: Ebin and John of Fenton and Mrs. John Traver of Ft. Wayne, Indiana." | Remington, William (I05161)
| William Clarke was a Gentleman of East Farleigh, County Kent, England; and St. Botolph, Aldgate, London. | CLARKE, William (I02778)
| William died at age 102+. In the 1850 Federal Census, William is age 63 and living at Portsmouth, RI, near his brother John. With him is son William M. Manchester, age 36, and also Abby B. Bennett, 29. Abby may be his niece, through either the Bennett or the Fish family From notes of Glenn Russell at Rootsweb's Worldconnect: William Manchester's will dated 21 Nov 1883 and probated 12 Jan 1885 at Portsmouth, Newport Co., RI mentions son, William M.; John, son of late brother, Edward; Ann Augusta, Clara W. Rathbone, and Bertha L. -- all daughters of John; unnamed daughters of Henry King of Tiverton, granddaughters of brother John. | Manchester, William (I18878)
| William died at age 68 y 1 m 10 d. According to the death record, he was a poultryman. | Hoxsie, William Remington (I18953)

| William Dyer came to America from London in 1633, united with the Boston Church, and was made freeman 3 Mar 1636. In 1638 he was disowned and disfranchised as a followed of Anne Hutchinson & Wheelwright, driven out of Massachusetts, and so he fled to Rhode Island where he became Secretary of the colony. His wife Mary was the famous friend & disciple of Anne Hutchinson. Mary Dyer herself was banished from Massachusetts and later suffered martyrdom by hanging on Boston Common 1 June 1660. (source: "The Hull Family in America" by Charles H. Weygant, Hull Family Association, 1913, p. 268) | Dyer, William (I12038)
| William E. Wright's book has his date of birth as 17 Jan 1693. | Gardner, Col. Ephraim (I08712)
| William Fairbanks served in the Revolutionary War in 1777 as a Private in Capt. Samuel Weber's Company. William & Priscilla and their family moved from RI to Montgomery Co., NY in the early 1800s (info from Arlene Fairbanks Dutton at Rootsweb). I assume that William was from the Fairbanks family on Prudence Island. The 1760 Town Tax listed Benjamin & Nathaniel Fairbanks, one of whom may have been the father of William. According to a family tree at Rootsweb's Worldconnect, William was a son of Benjamin & Rebecca Fairbanks, and Nathaniel was a brother of Benjamin, thus William's uncle; they were both sons of Jeremiah Fairbanks. This needs more research to confirm. The publication "The Fairbanks Family in America" by Lorenzo Sayles Fairbanks (Boston: 1897) says that William was possibly a grandson of Jeremiah Fairbanks of Bristol, RI. (this source at Old Colony Historical Society in Taunton, MA) Prudence Island was raided by British troops several times in 1775 and 1776. The families and their livestock were evacuated to Warwick or Bristol. Most of the houses and other structures were burned; few of the families returned. | Fairbanks, William (I14970)
| William had about 9 children by his second wife (see New England Historical Genealogical Register Vol. 43 p. 313). | Ellery, William (I23796)

| William Hubbard was Pastor of the church at Ipswich, according to family notes by Gov. John Leverett, father of Anne Leverett. William's death record at Boston says he died at age 83. | Hubbard, William (I28643)
| William is a son of Constant & Elizabeth (Collier) Southworth. William's brother Edward Southworth married Rebecca's sister Mary Pabodie, and his sister Mary Southworth married Rebecca's uncle David Alden. William died in his 60th year. | Southworth, William (I15203)
| William is age 15 (almost 16?) in the 1900 Federal Census, living at Bristol, RI, with his parents and two older sisters. In 1910, he is still living at Bristol, but now is married to Eva and has two children. The gravestone has his birth year as 1885. | Chafee, William "Willie" Clark (I00158)
| William is age 82 in the 1850 Federal Census, living at East Greenwich, RI, with Warren & Hitty Remington and Dexter & Ruth Remington. Could he also be the William Greene, age 93, living at Providence in 1860? He is with Sarah Crapeman (?) age 43 or 63 (?). Was he William Fones Greene, found in the RI Cemetery Database? (GREENE, William Fones 1768 - 1 Feb 1863 PV003) This Greene family needs more research. One online site has the wife of William Fones Greene as Abby Sheldon, not Elizabeth. William & Elizabeth may have had another daughter, one named Sophia, b. 1797, d. 8 Nov 1865, md. Mr. Greene. (see RIVR, NS, V. 8, p. 301) Also, I am not sure that Ruth belongs in this family group. Her death record says her parents are William & Elza. However, Elza may have been an abbreviation for Elizabeth. Also, it was not uncommon for two sisters to marry two brothers (Warren & Dexter Remington). | Greene, William (I13661)
| William is mentioned by name as son of John in the 10 Jan 1735/36 will of his paternal grandfather, William Allen. William is also mentioned as a son of John in a Portsmouth deed dated 6 Jan 1738/9 (see notes for John Allen). On 27 Apr 1757 William Allin, s/o of John Allin Esq. of Prudence Island in Portsmouth, sold land to Ebenezer Allin of Portsmouth; signed by William & Mary Allin, witnessed by Joseph Bates & William Remington. (Po Land Ev Bk 5 p 378-379) However, this may be a different William Allen. There was a William Allen whose widow Mary moved to Warwick with her children before 9 Mar 1747. So, that William died before that date. | Allen, William (I17359)
| William is named as a son in his father's and his mother's wills. William first came to New England in 1631, then returned to England and came back in 1635 with his wife and two children, on the ship "Abigail." The Almy family first settled in Lynn, MA, then went to Sandwich, MA, where William received a grant of land as one of the founders 1637. He later sold his land in Sandwich and moved to Portsmouth, RI, in 1642, where he received a land grant in 1644. He was made a freeman in 1655 and later was a juryman and a commissioner. His will of 1676 mentions his wife (unnamed), sons John, Christopher, and Job; and daughters An and Catharen. William is ancestor to at least three US Presidents. | ALMY, William (I01730)
| William is probably the son of William & Dorcas Tilley. Deacon William Tilley had 17 children by his first wife, Elizabeth. Four died in infancy. No children were born of his subsequent two marriages. His obituary in "The Newport Mercury" of 20 April 1825 says: "Died, on Sunday last, Deacon William Tilley, age 87 years. If 60 years of a conscientious discharge of religious and moral duties, joined to the endearing and affectionate domestic ties of husband, father, son, brother and friends, shall claim from our all wise and beneficent Creator, reward and mercy, he now enjoys all the heavenly felicity promised by the Gospel of Christ His life was a life of piety and usefulness, and to the last moments of that life, his faith and confidence was unshaken in Christ, the Son of God. He left a numerous progeny as well as numerous friends, to mourn his departure, 10 children, 79 grandchildren, and 44 great-grandchildren." His gravestone inscription in the Common Burial Ground, Newport, RI, reads: "Having for 60 years manifested by his daily walk and conversation that he was a disciple of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, faithful in the discharge of his duty as a Christian, especially in the office of a deacon, to which he was early called by the 2nd Baptist Church, under the pastoral care of Elder Gardiner Thurston.
