Notes |
- Giles & Joan were among the earliest settlers of Portsmouth, RI. He was there by 1648, was a freeman there by 1655, and purchased land in Dartmouth, MA in 1669. He was probably among the first to join the Society of Friends in RI, and made a bequest to the society in his will, dated 10 October 1681, calling the Quakers his "loving friends the people of God." He owned and gave to his sons large tracts of land in Rhode Island, New Plymouth (MA), and New Jersey.
