Apparently Jane was dependent on public aid; her name appears several times in the Exeter Town Council Records:

12 Jan 1754
"Whereas Jane Whitford daughter of Joseph Whitford dec is become chargable to town of Ex it was decided that North Kingstown is the town wherin (sic) the said Jane was last legally settled; thus ordered that said Jane Whitford be sent to NK."

14 May 1754
"Account of John Potter Town Sergent for L2 for conveying Jane Whitford to NK allowed."
