John may have had an earlier marriage, because the 1860 Census at Tiverton shows a daughter Hannah, age 12, living with the family (but see note below). In the 1880 Census, John B. Manchester is still living at Tiverton, RI, and with him in the household are children Bailey 26, Patience A. 20, and William Henry 16. They are next door to his brother Gideon and family.
In 1850, John Manchester is age 25, living with his parents, Baily 76 & Hannah 65. Besides John, other individuals in the household are: Hannah Manchester 34, Madison Manchester 9, William Manchester 6, & Hannah Manchester 2. Who is Hannah -- possibly a daughter or daughter-in-law, and who are the children? The younger Hannah is probably the one living with John & Emeline in 1860.
