• Notes

  The book "Little Compton Families" by Benjamin Franklin Wilbour gives Mary's surname as Wordell. According to the book "Charts and Chronicles of Matthew Grenelle's Descendants," p. 13, Mary Wodell was a descendant of no less than 10 of the barons who forced King John to accept the Magna Carta in 1215. Their names were: Roger & Hugh Bigood, Richard & Gilbert deClare, John FitzRobert, Robert FitzWalter, John de Lacie, William Mallet, Saire de Quincey, and Robert de Vere.
