  In the 1830 Federal Census "Aretus" is shown as residing at Tyringham, Berkshire County, MA. In the 1850 Federal Census, Aretus S. & Susan are living at Abingdon, Luzerne Co., PA, with six of their children: Susan 20, Holden 18, John 15, Aretus 13, Martha 9, and Emerald 3. All of the family members are listed as born in RI, except Susan, the older daughter. According to the 1850 census data, all of these family members were born in RI. Perhaps the census taker assumed too much? In the 1870 US Census, Aratus is living in Dartmouth, MA. Nearby in New Bedford, MA, are four of his sons, including William, and William's son, Jonathan Stedman Remington. His birth is recorded at New Bedford, MA, as 1 June 1804.
