    • In the 1860 Federal Census, D. J. & Mary Remington are ages 27 & 31, living at Lorraine, Jefferson Co., NY. They have two children, Cecil(e) 2 and Clayton 1. Daniel's mother Huldah, age 59, is nearby, living with the Hitchcocks (Daniel's sister Phebe and family).

      In the 1870 Federal Census, Daniel & Mary Ann are living at Lorraine, Jefferson Co., NY, with their children Cecil(e), Clarence, & Armence. They are next door to the Hitchcock family. Mrs. Hitchcock (Ann/Elizabeth) is Daniel's sister. Their mother Huldah is also with the Hitchcocks.

      In the 1880 Federal Census, Daniel J. & Margarett Remington are still living in Lorraine, Jefferson, NY, with their daughter Minnie M. age 16. They are nearby other family members, such as uncle "Orsmus," nephew Byron Hitchcock, and mother Huldah Remington. There are other Remingtons in town who may not be related -- other than very distantly (Hiram & Levi).

      Could Margaret be a second wife, or just another name for Mary, or even the census taker's mistake?
