  • Notes
    • Most of the information in these notes and data on Obadiah, his wife Esther, and son Seth W. came from "John Browne, Gentleman of Plymouth" by George Tilden Brown.

However, in this book George says that Seth W. is their only child; but the RI Death Index identifies Delaney (Brown) Remington as daughter of Obadiah & Esther. Family names bear this out as accurate.

Obadiah was made a freeman of Sterling, CT, 10 Apr 1791.

On 11 Oct 1796 he was referred to as "of Swansea" when he conveyed land in Swansea, MA, to Samuel Luther.

On 6 Feb 1803 he was "of Sterling, CT" when he conveyed other land in Swansea, MA, to the same Samuel Luther.

I believe this was probably the Samuel Luther who was Obadiah's brother-in-law, husband of sister Rebekah.

Obadiah's wife Esther signed both of the above deeds.

Obadiah shows up in town records of Sterling, CT, between 1805 and 1812, including a sale on 1 Aug 1811 to Seth W. Brown of Sterling.

Also, on 21 Nov 1815 there were two deeds signed by Obadiah & Esther. These refer to John Wood; also to Seth Wood, late of Swansea. Esther is identified as one of Seth's heirs, along with Miller Wood, a son.
