  • Notes
    • In the 1880 Federal Census, Lafayette & Helen are living in Fairfield Precinct, Marion Co., OR, with their three children. They are next door to his nephew, DeWitt, and his family. It appears that the two relatives work together in a sawmill business which Lafayette owns.

Notes from Melvina Wagner at Rootsweb's Remington message board: "Marquis DeLafayette Remington, b. Feb 2, 1847 in Macomb Prairie, IL, settled in the Woodburn, OR, area and invented a steam engine tractor, which was patented. That patent sold twice and is now owned by Catapillar Tractor Co."
