    • In the 1850 Federal Census, Dewitt is age 2, living with his parents, his grandmother Esther, and six aunts and uncles, some of them young children like he is. The family is living in McDonough Co., IL.

      In the 1880 Federal Census, DeWitt & Laura are living in Fairfield Precinct, Marion Co., OR, with their four children. They are next door to his uncle, Lafayette, and his family. It appears that the two work together in a sawmill business which Lafayette owns.
