    • According to information posted at Rootsweb's Worldconnect (Pamela D. Hudson's family tree), John and his father John Sr. were both Revolutionary soldiers. The family moved from VA to GA about 1775/76, first settling in Burke County, and later moving to Tattnall County, acquiring land on the Ogeechee River. The Sharpe plantation is now a part of the state prison property.

      The surname is spelled variously as Sharp or Sharpe in the historical records.
