• Notes

  In the 1850 Federal Census, she is called Caroline, and is 11 years old. The census taker probably misunderstood her name. Sometime between the 1850 census and her marriage in 1854, she traveled to CA, probably to join her father and other neighbors who had gone from Illinois. Had her father arranged a marriage for her, or was she just going to look after her father (who died in CA in 1858)? In 1880, Evaline and her husband Jesse and children are living a few doors from her brother, Francis Marion Remington, and his wife and family. Also nearby is brother Elmer and his household, including their mother Esther (Doud) Remington, aged 72.
