    • In the 1851 census, Joshua Slack is age 34, and his wife Ann is 35. He is a cotton stockinger and she is a seamer. The family, living at 12 Bancroft Lane, Mansfield, includes four children: Ann 10, Sarah 9, Edward 5, and Thomas 2. They are living near several other Slack households.

      In 1861 the family is 33 Bancroft Lane, Mansfield; they have 8 children. Son Gilbert has died.
