According to the 1850 Federal Census, William E. Manchester was born in RI. In this census he is age 29, a grocer, living at Providence with his wife Sarah and two young sons, William A. & George W.

In 1860, William's birthplace is given as MA. He appears to have remarried to Maria J., age 26 in thie census. They are living at Providence, and have three children in the household: William A. 13, George W. 11, & Franklin P. 6. I am placing Franklin on the family tree as a son of Maria.
