Benjamin died in his 78th year.
In the year 1675, he was the first Englishman to settle at Little Compton. However, that year war broke out between the settlers and natives. During this conflict, known as King Philip's War, Benjamin was commissioned as Captain in Plymouth's colonial forces. In 1689 he was commissioned as Major and Commander-in-Chief of the first expedition against the Indians in Maine. He eventually commanded all five expeditions.
In March 1716/17 Col. Benjamin Church and his wife Alice were admitted as members of the United Congregational Church in Little Compton, RI.
