  In the 1850 Federal Census, John & Emma are living at Tiverton, RI, with their six sons. Also in the household is May Lake, 14. They are next door to Isaac & Elizabeth Sherman as well as Ruth Lake, who is living in the Sherman household. Two doors down are Seabury & Phebe Peirce and their four children. A few years later, Alice Peirce will marry Charles Hicks. The Hicks family and several of their sons, who marry and have children, remain in Tiverton, where they can be found in future censuses.
