  Both Harvey and his father Nelson served in the Civil War. Harvey entered military service Dec 1864, in the 9th Cavalry, Co. 1, at age 16. He served continuously at least 2 years and 7 months. (source: Delaware Co., NY, historical web site) In the 1880 Federal Census, Harvey & Sarah, ages 31 & 34, are living at Hamden, Delaware Co., NY.
