    • Information on Alfred Southmayd, his marriage to Aurelia, and their family came from T. Dowling's family tree at Rootsweb's Worldconnect. This tree shows Alfred's parents as Samuel B. Southmayd of Middlesex Co., CT; and Martha Rathbone of Cayuga Co., NY.

      My notes:

      In the Federal Census of 1860, Alfred & Aurelia, ages 40 & 26, are living at Alma, Allegany Co., NY. Aurelia's brother Allen 17 appears to be living with them; married sister Caroline Barron and family are also close by.

      In the Federal Census of 1870, A. R. is 49 and Aurelia is 36. They are living at Oak Grove, Eau Claire Co., WI. With them are: Martha Southmayd 72, and Frank Southmayd 11 (in 1880 we find that he is their adopted son).

      In the Federal Census of 1880, Alfred R. & Aurelia H. Southmaid, ages 60 & 46, are living at Wheaton, Chippewa Co., WI. With them is adopted son Frank M. 21; also a servant and a boarder.
