- At the time of the marriage of William & Sally in Pomfret CT, William was of Ashford, CT.
In the Federal Census of 1840, William Kent and his wife are living at Ashford, CT. They are listed next to James Kent, who may be his father.
Please note that I have placed William as a son of James and Ruby, but this has not been confirmed. There may also have been a brother to William named Cyril/Cyrel W. Kent, formerly of Ashford, who was married to Minerva Peck in Pomfret, CT, in 1839.
In the Federal Census of 1850, the family is living at Cranston, RI: William R. Kent 37 RI laborer, Sally 31 CT, Ellen R. 7 CT, and Joseph W. 2 RI. They are living next to Benjamin N. & Eliza Remington and family.
In 1860 the family is still at Cranston: Wm R. 48 CT jeweller, Sarah 42 CT, Ellen 17 RI, and Joseph 12 RI.
In 1870, the family is at Providence, RI, 9th Ward: William R. Kent 58 RI laborer, Sarah P. 52 CT, and Joseph W. 22 RI clerk in office.
In 1880, he appears to be W. R. Kent age 62 CT, living in Providence.
