Catherine Burch

The following information is provided by Richard Allen Brownell, Sr.:
"I believe that Catherine Burch's father was Isaac Burch of the town Hartwick, Otsego Co., NY, and that her grandparents were Rev. William Burch d.13 Nov. 1853, age 92y 5mo 13d, b.31 May 1761, and Sally d.5 Sept. 1846 73y, buried West Burlington Village Cemetery, Town of Burlington, Otsego Co., NY. They were afilliated with the Baptist Church, as was Isaac Burch. Note: William and Isaac were children's names used by Catherine and Daniel."

The following information is from Kathy Downs Wolff:
"I notice in your notes for Catherine, you have a reference to an email from Richard Brownell, Sr. who thinks Catherine might be the daughter of Isaac Burch. That's quite logical given that Isaac was 23 years older than her, but it turns out Isaac is really her older brother and the William/Sally couple aren't related to them at all. Catherine's birthday is 13 May 1802 and she died in New Hampshire 23 Oct. 1875."

My notes:

In the 1860 Federal Census, "Catharine Lippet" age 58 b VT is living at Spring Twp., Crawford Co., PA. In the household with her are: Ann, 25; Mary, 22; and Ida, 3. Ida is probably the daughter of Isaac (see 1870 census), and Mary may be her mother, Isaac's first wife; but where is Isaac in this census?

Catherine married Daniel Lippitt 27 Sep 1821, Otsego Co., NY. Daniel (son of Loudon Lippitt and Nancy Anna Remington) was born 12 Nov 1797, RI; died 17 May 1860; was buried , Rundell Cemetery, Spring Twp., Crawford Co., PA. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

In the 1850 Federal Census, Lorenzo & Mary are living at Spring Township, Crawford Co., PA, with their two young daughtersm, Martha 2 and Louise 4 mos. They are next door to Lorenzo's parents and family.

In 1860 they are living at LeBoeuf, Erie Co., PA. Listed in the household are: Lorenzo Lippit, 36; Mary 29; Martha A. 11; & Frank N. 2.

Lorenzo married Mary L. Ross 2 Jan 1848, PA. Mary (daughter of Justice Ross and Amelia S. Morris) was born 30 Sep 1829, NY or PA; died 11 Dec 1908, Cambridge Springs, PA. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

In the 1860 Federal Census, William & Lydia "Lippet" are ages 23 & 22. A marble cutter, William was born in NY, and Lydia was born in PA. They are living at Spring Twp., Crawford Co., PA, in the household of William & Olive Rundall. Also is the same town is Catharine Lippet, 58 VT, who (I am assuming) is William's mother.

I haven't been able to locate William & Lydia in subsequent censuses. However, I have made an assumption that Frank S. Lippett is their son, based on the time frame and family names.

William married Lydia Unknown Bef 1 Jun 1860. Lydia was born Abt 1838, PA; died Aft 1 Jun 1861. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

In the 1870 Federal Census, "J. B. Lippit" is age 37 NY, a marble cutter, and is living at Constantine, St. Joseph Co., MI. He is married to Caroline, age 26 NY, who I am assuming is his second wife. They have three children in the household: Ida 13, Sheridan 10, & Mary B. 3 (probably). The children were all born in PA. I am making an assumption that Mary is the daughter of Caroline. This family group needs more research.

Isaac married Mary Unknown Abt 1856. Mary was born Abt 1838, PA; died Bef 1866. [Group Sheet]

Martha married Romanzo Brooks Drake 1 Jan 1867, Edinboro, Erie Co., PA. Romanzo (son of Abel K. Drake and Roena Satterly) was born 31 Oct 1842, Belmont, Allegany Co., NY; died 15 Feb 1920, Cambridge Springs, Crawford Co., PA. [Group Sheet]

I am not sure of these dates for Mary. She appears to be the daughter named Louise in the 1850 census, at age 4 months. (This needs more research.)

Notes:

In the 1860 Federal census, his name is listed as Frank N. Lippit, and he is age 2 and living with his parents and older sister Martha at LeBeouf, PA.

In the 1870 Federal Census, Frank is listed as Frank Wilder, 12, and is living in Randolph, PA, with his mother and stepfather, Sylvester Wilder.

In 1880 Frank Lippitt is living at Meadville, Crawford Co., PA. He is age 23, and is among a group of students boarding at North Main St., listed beneath the name of William Scott, Attorney at Law. These students range from age 15 to 29.

According to Richard Brownell, a Lippitt descendant, Frank F. Lippitt b c1858 married first to Addie Guy, who died in 1897. Frank married second to Mrs. Rose Garver in 1899.

In the 1910 Federal Census, F. F. & Rose Lippitt are ages 52 & 49. They are living at Meadville, Crawford Co., PA, with their blended family: Guy 26, Robert 23, Karl 21, Lucile 16 (all surname Lippitt), Blanche Garver 27, & Elizabeth Garver 22 (all b PA).

In the 1920 Federal Census, F. F. Lippitt is age 63, b PA, still living at Meadville, Crawford Co., PA. His wife is Rose G. Lippitt, age 59, b PA. A stepdaughter, Elizabeth, age 30 (?), is with them. They are living next door to George S. & Blanche Davenport, ages 40 & 38, both b PA. Blanche is a stepdaughter of Frank.

Frank — Addie Guy. Addie died 1897. [Group Sheet]

Frank married Rose Unknown 1899. Rose was born Abt 1861, PA; died Aft 1 Apr 1930. [Group Sheet]

I am making an assumption that the following data for Frank pertains to a son of William & Lydia Lippitt, although I can't find this family group when Frank is a child. I think Frank must be a son of William because his son is named Burch, probably after Catherine Burch, William's mother.

In the 1900 Federal Census, Frank S. Lippitt is age 38, b PA, and living at Buffalo, Erie Co., NY. He is married to Sarah and has two children, Burch & Felicia, ages 6 & 4. In 1910, Frank S. is 48, b PA, and living at Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co., OH. Frank & Sarah have two children: Burch 16, and Felicia 14. However, it says that both of his parents were born in RI, but this is incorrect, and is different from the data in the 1920 census, which says that his father was born in PA and his mother in NY. In 1920 the family is still in Cleveland; Frank S. is 57, Sarah C. is 54, Burch M. is 25, and Felicia Belle is 24.

Frank is a portrait artist with his own studio.

In the 1930 Federal Census, Guy H. Lippitt is age 45, b PA, living at Plandome, Nassau Co., NY. He is married and has a son and a daughter. His occupation is listed as "lawyer."

Notes:

In the 1920 Federal Census, Karl R. Lippitt is age 31, b PA, living in Los Angeles, CA. He is married and has one daughter, born in AZ. Karl is a credit manager at a department store.

In the 1930 Federal Census, Karl R. Lippitt is age 40, b PA, and living at Beverly Hills, Los Angeles Co., CA. He is married and has one daughter.

Notes:

From the census data it appears that Lucille must have been born c1894. However, this is the year that Margaret was born. Are they two names for the same individual? (needs more research)

In the Federal Census of 1900, "Margret G. Lipet" is age 6, living with her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Wilder, at Randolph, Crawford Co., PA.

Burch was probably named after his great-grandmother, Catherine (Burch) Lippitt.

In the 1930 Federal Census, Burch M. Lippitt is age 35 and married, living in Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co., OH, with his wife Mildred, 33. His mother-in-law, Minnie E. Repp, a widow age 58, is living with them.

According to the Social Security Death Index, his last known residence was West Palm Beach, FL.

Burch married Mildred Kathryn Repp Abt 1927. Mildred was born 4 Oct 1896, OH; died Sep 1969. [Group Sheet]
