Notes:
Thomas and his family must have lived in Vermont for a while, because his son Silas was born at Rupert, VT, in 1792, according to Boyd Scott Remington's chart. Also, the 1860 census shows Thomas's birthplace as VT. The 1790 census lists Thomas Remington at Rupert (indexed at Ancestry.com as Bennington); the 1800 census shows Thomas & Silas "Remmington" at Rupert. They are the only Remington families there at the time. My assumption is that the Silas on the census is Thomas's brother, b. 1776.
The following notes are from "Reunion of Descendants of Alvah Remington, 1797-1888" at Online Collections at BYU:

Notes:
Note at Rootsweb from descendant Margaret Fish: "I descend from Col. Thaddeus Remington of C'd'g'a, through son Thad Jr., and his daughter Mary. And finally, after 9 years, found a book which verifies he was married in Granby, Conn. (near Suffield) to Betsy Root (some NY books said Nelson) on Jan. 28, 1793. He died 19 Sept. 1838 and Betsy died 24 Dec. 1855."
"Overlooking Centerfield was the home of Colonel Thaddeus Remington, the maternal grandparent, who had given his own name to the hill upon which he had built his log-house in 1798. Colonel Remington was the eldest of three brothers who came from Vermont, where the traditions of the family run back until they are lost to record. By his solicitations two younger brothers, who had come from Vermont to Connecticut, were induced to come west to make a settlement, and one of them selected Henrietta and the other Mumford, in Monroe county." Notes:
On 28 Nov 1793, John Kittridge of Chesterfield, MA, was appointed guardian of Silas Remington, aged 17 years, of Suffield, CT. Silas is probably the Silas Remmington in the 1800 census at Rupert, VT, along with his brother Thomas. Both of these brothers had sons named Silas, born in VT.
Vermont Gazette, 10 February 1806; Bennington, Vermont: "Silas Remington of Reupert [sic.], is now confined to Bennington jail, on execution of a judgement in favor of Samuel Dinsmer of Rupert. He is to show cause why petitioner should not be allowed to take the oath prescribed by law for the relief of prisoners."
Federal Census of 1810 lists Silas Remington at Rupert, along with Thomas.
From "STATE OF VERMONT ROSTER OF SOLDIERS IN THE WAR OF 1812-14," prepared and published under the direction of Herbert T. In the 1820 Federal Census, the three brothers -- Thomas, Silas, & Alva -- are listed at Henrietta, Monroe Co., NY. In 1850 and 1860, Thomas & Huldah are still living at Henrietta, Monroe Co., NY. In 1860 he is listed as Thomas N. Remington, so possibly his middle name was Nelson.

In the 1850 Federal Census, "Alva" & Emma (2nd wife) are living at Henrietta, Monroe, NY, with four of his children -- Mariah, Mary, Harriet, & Luther -- and three of her children by her first marriage, plus three other individuals -- possibly relatives. They are next door to Alvah's son William and Emma's daughter Sarah, who are married.

From the website of the West Henrietta Baptist Church:
"Other families important to our church history began to arrive between 1815 and 1827 when the church worshiped in a log cabin on the river road. Alvah Remington came alone at 20 in 1817 and built a log cabin before marrying Mercy Gorton, the minister’s daughter. Alvah is memorialized in the stained glass window next to the piano. Among his grandsons were Harvey Remington, a prominent Rochester lawyer and judge who served on the boards of Colgate Rochester Divinity School and Fairport Baptist Home, and Frederic Remington, a well-known Rochester doctor."
From "Biographies of Monroe County"
"Alvah Remington, the fourth son of Thomas Remington, was born in Rupert, VT, July 25, 1797. About the year 1817 he removed with his father's family to Henrietta, NY, settling on the farm upon which all of his children were born. He married Mercy Gorton, daughter of Rev. Thomas Gorton, a Baptist clergyman, September 30, 1819. Thomas Gorton was a descendant of Samuel Gorton, who was prominent in the early history of Rhode Island. The descendants of Thomas Gorton are very numerous in Western New York, Michigan and other Western states. (See record of Martin Family of Henrietta). Mercy Gorton was the mother of all of Alvah Remington's children and she died Oct. 17, 1847. He married a second time, September 3, 1848, Amy Northrup Foote, widow of Harvey Foote. Amy was the descendant of Stephen Northrup, one of the prominent early settlers of Rhode Island. She was an aunt of President George W. Northrup of Chicago and who was at one time a professor of the Rochester Theological seminary and pastor of the First Baptist Church. Alvah Remington was one of the early members of the whig party and later a republican and lifelong member of West Henrietta Baptist Church. He died in West Henrietta, N. Y., October 4, 1888." From "BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES, Town of Genesee":
JOHN REMINGTON, retired farmer; born in Rupert, Vt., in 1805; he left his native state when 13 years of age, and located in western New York; when the Erie Canal was building, he helped dig stumps and do grading, in what is now the heart of the city of Rochester, being one of a few living men engaged in this work. He married Miss Lucinda Marble, of Casenovia, Oneida Co., N. Y., they coming to Genesee and settling on a wild farm in 1842; began a poor man and disposed of a small stock of cloth and leather as best he might, to settlers as poor as himself; Mr. and Mrs. Remington kept open house for travelers in early days, and mainly a night their floor would be covered with the prostrate forms of sleeping frontiersmen. In his house the first Methodist Episcopal sermon was preached, by the Rev. Mr. Moulthrop, in the fall of 1842, the first prayer meeting having been held there that summer; Mr. Remington was also a pioneer merchant, and relates that he met with business reverses, his store having been broken into and robbed one night, about thirty years ago, by a band of (supposed) Mormons. In 1859 he built, and placed his son in charge of a warehouse and store in North Prairie; sold out his business here, and in 1870, sold his farm; built, and for three years lived in, a new house in Genesee village; removed again to a farm, which he exchanged with Thomas Sugden, thus obtaining the building where he now lives. Mr. and Mrs. Remington have nine children: Emily, Daniel, Harriet (deceased), Mariette, Stephen (deceased), Alva, John, Lucinda and Mary; Emily is Mrs. D. D. Gross, of Friendville, Neb., Daniel has a hotel in Northern Wisconsin, Mariette is the wife of the Rev. T. M. Ross, Alva is in business in Milwaukee, John is a civil engineer, and the two youngest daughters are in North Prairie, Mary being the wife of W. E. Swan, Jr., who is one of the prosperous and live young business men of his native county; for the past six years he has carried a large and complete stock of general merchandise, including dry goods, groceries, drugs, boots and shoes, hardware, farm implements, notions, etc.; is doing and means to do a good and satisfactory business. Mr. Remington is an old-school Whig-Republican, and was, for six years, Town Treasurer; is, with his wife, a Methodist.

23. Williston Remington (9.Silas2, 1.Mary1) was born Abt 1800, VT; died 5 Sep 1825; was buried , Hunn Memorial Cemetery, Canandaigua, NY.
Notes:
I have roughly estimated the birth year of Williston.
24. Jerusha Hopkins Remington
(9.Silas2, 1.Mary1) was born Abt 1801, VT; died 30 Dec 1878; was buried , Machpelah Cemetery, LeRoy, Genesee Co., NY.
Notes:
Some information on Jerusha and her husband Oliver Allen came in an email from Wilfred Vasile, dated 28 Mar 2012. He references LeRoy (NY) Historical Society records, "Seymour Genealogy" p 89. Additional information came from the 1850 census, where she is living next to Silas Remington; also from "Wheatland, Monroe County, New York: a brief sketch of its history" by George Engs Slocum, page 97 (Google Books online). With the census and the information from the book about Monroe County, I was able to determine that Jerusha is a sister of Silas and William.
In the Federal Census of 1850, Jerusha Allen is age 49 VT, living at Wheatland, Monroe Co., NY. With her are daughter Elizabeth 25 NY, and son Oliver 26 NY, along with his wife Catharine 24 NY and their daughter Frances C. 1 NY. They are living/listed next to Silas Remington and family. I am assuming that Jerusha (Remington) Allen is his sister, based on the above-mentioned historical book, along with her age and birthplace as given in the census.
In the Federal Census of 1860, she is J. H. Allen 60 VT (a domestic), living with her son Oliver and his family, at Wheatland, NY.
Jerusha's middle initial is given as H in at least one census, and in the above-mentioned book by Slocum. Her middle name is given as Hopkins in "Landmarks of Monroe County, NY" by William F. Peck (1895), Part III, p. 80 - 81.Jerusha married Oliver Allen, Sr. 5 Dec 1822. Oliver (son of Rufus Allen and Emilicent Seymour) was born 4 Jan 1798, Pittsfield, MA; died 10 Nov 1848; was buried , Machpelah Cemetery, LeRoy, Genesee Co., NY. [Group Sheet]

25. Silas Remington, Jr. (9.Silas2, 1.Mary1) was born 10 Jun 1807, Rupert, Bennington Co., VT; died 21 May 1882, Mumford, Monroe Co., NY.
Notes:
In the 1850 Federal Census, Silas & Louisa ("Lovica") are living at Wheatland, Monroe Co., NY, with their children Sarah 17 & Silas H. 10. Silas, age 44 b. VT, is a manufacturer, and his property is valued at $600. They are living a few doors down from his brother William and family. Next door is Jerusha Allen and her family; I believe she is a sister of William and Silas.
In 1860 the family is still at Wheatland: Silas 52 VT woolen manufacturer, Lovica 53 NY weaver, Sarah E. 27 NY teacher, and Silas H. 19 laborer.
In the Federal Census of 1870, "Sylas" & "Lavina" both aged 63 are still living at Wheatland, NY. With them is Elvira, 21.
Some information on Silas, including his dob, birthplace, marriage, and children, came from a descendant, Thomas Frederick Remington III. This information was compiled by Thomas from a family Bible in the possession of Carolyn Kelly as of 15 August 2003.Silas married Lovica "Louisa" Hovey 17 Jun 1830. Lovica was born 13 Nov 1806, Lima, Livingston Co., NY; died 24 Apr 1880, Mumford, Monroe Co., NY. [Group Sheet]

26. George M. Remington (11.Silas3, 4.Thomas2, 1.Mary1) was born Abt 1820, NY; died Aft 1857.
Notes:
In the 1850 Federal Census, the family is living at Hebron, Jefferson Co., WI: George M. 30 NY, Clarrissa 24 NY, Cordelia 6 WI, Martha 3 WI, & Orthos 1 WI.
I can't locate George in the census records after 1850. In 1860 there is a George Remington, mechanic (?), b c 1815, boarding at a hotel in Franklin, Delaware Co., NY. In 1870 there is a George Remington, blind, b c 1825, in an institution in Rome, Oneida Co., NY. Also in 1870 there is a couple, George 39 and Clarrissa 30, living at Ashland, Newaygo Co., MI; however, the ages are way off, if it is indeed this couple; but no children are with them.
In putting together these family members, I have made an assumption that Clarrissa Remington, age 24, in the 1850 Federal Census, is the same individual as Clara Remington, age 54, in the 1880 Federal Census, when she and son Lyman are living in Chicago, IL.George married Clarissa Gardiner Abt 1843. Maria (Remington) Hemiup, widow of George M. Hemiup, was born in Boston, Erie County, New York, March 18, 1832. Descending from a long line of scholars and statesmen, it is not strange that she should have inherited an inquiring mind. Her whole life has been spent in study and research. Her husband always encouraged her in all her undertakings, and in 1871 she drew the plans for her large home on Genesee Street. Contractors refused to build the house unless the plans were submitted to an architect for revision and correction. This Mr. and Mrs. Hemiup refused to do, but at last the house was built in 1873, the builders one and all refusing to take any responsibility in the matter, but when the house was completed it was found that the plans had been correct in every particular. Mrs. Hemiup still resides in the house she planned and built so many years ago; her daughter and son-in-law reside with her. On May 5, 1866, Mrs. Hemiup published her first scientific article in the columns of the Rochester Es-press. This article attracted wide attention, as in it she claimed that ice formation was not a deviation from natural law as had always been supposed. In 1886, after devoting twenty years to study of the subject, she published her first book "Law of Heat." This volume was in support of her theory and advanced her "Moulten river" theory. This work was widely read and Mrs. Hemiup has in her possession scores of letters from the most noted scientists of Europe and America in reference to her work. At the age of seventy-six. Mrs. Hemiup published "Our World," and now (1910) (1911), at the advanced age of seventy-nine, she still hopes to complete another large work. Mr. and Mrs. Hemiup were ardent believers in the woman suffrage movement, and the political articles of Mrs. Hemiup in the Geneva papers carried much weight for many years.
Mrs. Hemiup was aunt of the late Frederic Remington. She died after a week's illness. September 11, 1911. The funeral services were conducted by a woman minister. Miss Clara Morgan.Maria married George M. Hemiup 12 Nov 1851, Geneva, NY. George (son of Alexander Hemiup) was born 22 Nov 1822, Penn Yan, NY; died 14 Jul 1886. [Group Sheet]

"Allen, Oliver, proprietor of the well known O-At-Ka woolen mill, was born in September, 1823, at Mumford, Monroe county, N. Y., where he still resides. His father was Oliver Allen 1st, born in Pittsfield, Mass., in 1798, and married to Jerusha Hopkins Remington, in 1822. Their two children are the present Oliver, sr., and Elizabeth M., wife of John R. Olmsted of Le Roy, N. Y. The father of Oliver Allen 1st was Rufus Allen of Pittsfield, and his mother was Emilicent Seymour of Canandaigua, N. Y. Miss Remington was the daughter of Dr. Silas Remington of Rupert, Vt., and Betsey Rose Gere Remington of Chesterfield, Conn. The first Oliver early learned the trade of wool-carding and cloth-dressing, and came to Mumford in 1821, establishing and continuing that business for eight years. In 1829 they purchased and located themselves upon the present site of the O-At-Ka Mill, under the firm name of Remington and Allen. This partnership existed until 1841, when Allen bought the Remington interest and enlarged the previous capacity of the mill, putting in power looms and additional machinery for manufacturing various qualities of woolen goods. About the same time there was added to this property the neighboring custom and flouring mill, previously owned by Donald McKenzie. In 1844, having taken his son into partnership, the firm became Oliver Allen &, which remained unchanged until the death of the senior partner in 1848. In 1872 Oliver 3d came into the business, making the firm name for the second time Oliver Allen and Son. Mr. Allen has been identified with church, school and other interests, and was made presiding officer of the centennial celebration of the town of Wheatland, which occurred September 3,1889. He was the chief promoter of the Rochester and State Line Railway and after years of incessant labor the road became an actual fact, Mr. Allen driving the last spike at its completion to Salamanca. He was made vice-president when the company was first organized, and afterward president, which office he held until years after the road was finished. He was one of the incorporators of the Merchant's Savings Bank of Rochester, and is at present the oldest trustee of that institution; and also for many years a director in the Flour City National Bank of the same city. Mr. Allen was married in 1848 to Miss Catharine H. Seaman, daughter of Leonard Lewis and Mahala Doughty Seaman of Palmyra, N. Y. Their children are Frances S.; Oliver jr., of the home firm; Leonard L., of Allen Bro's flannel and hosiery mill, Rochester; Katharine E.; Lillian, deceased; Ethan, of the New York branch office of Allen Bros.; Harry, in charge of Chicago office; Charles Ernest, deceased."
