Mary married Silas Remington 15 Jun 1815. Silas (son of Thomas Remington and Olive Nelson) was born 25 Jan 1792, Rupert, Bennington Co., VT; died 6 Feb 1857, WI; was buried , Genesee Cemetery, Genesee, Waukesha Co., WI. [Group Sheet]

In the 1850 Federal Census, the family is living at Hebron, Jefferson Co., WI: George M. 30 NY, Clarrissa 24 NY, Cordelia 6 WI, Martha 3 WI, & Orthos 1 WI.

I can't locate George in the census records after 1850. In 1860 there is a George Remington, mechanic (?), b c 1815, boarding at a hotel in Franklin, Delaware Co., NY. In 1870 there is a George Remington, blind, b c 1825, in an institution in Rome, Oneida Co., NY. Also in 1870 there is a couple, George 39 and Clarrissa 30, living at Ashland, Newaygo Co., MI; however, the ages are way off, if it is indeed this couple; but no children are with them.

In putting together these family members, I have made an assumption that Clarrissa Remington, age 24, in the 1850 Federal Census, is the same individual as Clara Remington, age 54, in the 1880 Federal Census, when she and son Lyman are living in Chicago, IL.

George married Clarissa Gardiner Abt 1843. Clarissa was born Abt Oct 1825, NY; died Aft 1 Jun 1900. [Group Sheet]

In the 1850 Federal Census, his name appears as Orthos, and his age is given as 1. His family is living in WI.

In 1870 he appears to be Arthur, age 20, in MN, a farm laborer.

In 1880 he is Arthur, 30, living in CO, a prospector.

In 1910 he is Orthus, born Sep 1850, age 59/60, living in AK, a road house keeper.

In the census of 1 Jan 1920 he is Orthus, age 69, still single, living in Kern Co., CA. He is a dishwasher at the Salt Works.

He is probably age 79 and living in Sacramento in 1930 -- name not legible. (Ancestry has indexed it as Richas, but it is not clear.)

In the 1870 Federal Census, Lyman is age 13 WI, living at Vasa, Goodhue Co., MN, with the family of Lorenzo Leavitt. His brother Arthur (probably Orthus), 20 WI, is also there.

In 1880 Lyman is age 23, living at Chicago, Cook Co., IL, with his mother Clara, age 54.

In the 1900 Federal Census, Lyman is married to Minnie and living on Ashland Street in Chicago. Their ages are given as 42 and 29. According to the census data, they have been married four years. They have two young children, Elmer 3 and Marion 1. Clara Remington 74, Lyman's mother, is with them.

In 1910 Lyman and Minnie, ages 53 and 39, are still in Chicago. They now have two more children, Evelyn & Eugene. The family is living on South Claremont Avenue. They also have a lodger with them.

In 1920 L.A. Remington is 62 and Minnie is 49. They are on Warren Avenue in Chicago. There are now five children in the household. I wonder why Eugene's name is given as W. R. or W. L. The household consists of: L.A. 62 WI, Minnie 49 IL, E.B. 22 IL, M. 20 IL, Clara 17 IL, W. L. (or W. R. ) 11 IL, & Lucile 8 IL.

Lyman married Minnie Nitschke Abt 1896. Minnie was born Jan 1871, IL; died Aft 1 Apr 1930, IL. [Group Sheet]

This may be this Elmer Remington:
Elmer Remington b 21 May 1897 d Mar 1982 Portland, Multnomah, Oregon

In the 1920 Federal Census, there is another Elmer Remington of about the same age, living in Iowa with his aunt & uncle; however, these two Elmer Remingtons cannot be the same person, unless he had gone to visit his mother's relatives and is listed twice in the census. The age is about right for this Elmer but the birthplace is different.

Marion — Walter Matthew Hammond. Walter was born 1895. [Group Sheet]
