Notes:

In the 1870 Federal Census, William & "Francis" are ages 34 & 35, and they are living at Valdosta, Lowndes Co., GA. Living with them are their three Remington nephews: Simeon, Charles, & Hamilton. The family is next door to William's parents, Hamilton & Jane Sharp(e). William's sister Jane P. Joiner is nearby with her family, also.

William married Frances A. Perham 4 Nov 1857, GA. Frances was born Abt 1835, MA; died Aft 1 Jun 1870. [Group Sheet]

"In 1863, a Savannah editor thanked Thomasville's Mrs. Charles Remington for sending a 'bountiful supply of pepper and sage for the use of hospitals.' " (Savannah Republican, 12 Sept 1863, quoted in "Thomas County During the Civil War," by William Rogers)

In the 1875 Rhode Island Census, Ellen P. Remington is age 38, living in Providence, RI. Her three sons are with her: Simeon H. 20, Charles H. 18, & Hamilton S. 15. They are living near Albert F. Remington and his family, and William H. Remington and his family, brothers and sons of Benjamin & Matilda (Spink) Remington.

In 1880 E. P. Remington is age 42 and living at Quitman, Brooks Co., GA, with her son C.H. (Charles, Jr.), who keeps a hotel there. Her son Hamilton is also with them, and Simeon is nearby in town with his wife. They are next door to Ellen's sister Jane P. Joiner and her family. Jane & Ellen's parents, Hamilton & Jane Sharpe, are also living in town.

In1900 she is living with son Charles and several other family members at Quitman, GA; by 1910 Charles has (probably) died so she is with son Hamilton and his family at Columbus, Muscogee Co., GA.

Ellen married Charles Henry Remington, Sr. 29 Jan 1854, GA. Charles (son of Charles Remington and Elizabeth "Betsey" Stafford) was born Between 1820 and 1822, RI; died 23 Nov 1861. [Group Sheet]

Jane — Walter L. Joiner. Walter was born Abt 1838, GA; died Aft 1 Jun 1880. [Group Sheet]

Betsey married Robert Alexander 20 Feb 1867, GA. Robert was born Abt 1843, GA; died Aft 1 Jun 1880. [Group Sheet]

In the 1860 Federal Census, S. A. Remington is age 4, living with his parents and brothers at Thomas, GA. In 1870 Simeon Remington is age 15, living with his two brothers in the household of William & Frances Sharp at Valdosta, Lowndes Co., GA, next door to his maternal grandparents. In 1875, Simeon is living in Providence, RI, with his mother and two brothers, near Albert F. Remington & William H. Remington and their families. In 1880 S. A. Remington is age 25, married, and living at Quitman, Brooks Co., GA, near his mother and brothers.

In 1870 Charles Remington is age 13, living with his two brothers at Valdosta, Lowndes Co., GA, in the home of William & Frances Sharp, next door to his maternal grandparents.

In 1875 he is living in Providence, RI, with his mother and two brothers, near Albert F. Remington & William H. Remington and their families.

In 1880 C. H. Remington is age 24, and living in Quitman, Brooks Co., GA. He is a hotel keeper. With him are his mother and his brother, H. S. Also in town is his brother Simeon and his wife.

In the 1900 Federal Census, Charles H. Remington is age 43 GA, still living at Quitman, Brooks Co., GA. His wife is Sallie F. Remington, 36 VA. They have two children: Henry T. 18, & Charles H. 7, both b GA. Also in the household are Ellen P. Remington, widow 65 GA -- Charles's mother; and two nephews: Charles A. Remington 19 GA, & Simeon S. Remington 17 GA. I am making an assumption that these two young men are sons of Charles's brother Simeon. This is a reasonable assumption because Simeon was married and living in Quitman in 1880.

Charles married Sallie F. Thomas 12 Jan 1881, Quitman, GA. Sallie (daughter of Henry L. Thomas and Matilla Catherine Unknown) was born 19 Dec 1862, VA; died 19 Feb 1929, Quitman, GA; was buried , Oak Hill Cemetery, Quitman, GA. [Group Sheet]

In the 1860 Federal Census, H. S. Remington is about 6 months old, living with his parents and brothers at Thomas, GA. In 1870 Hamilton Remington is age 13, living with his two brothers at Valdosta, Lowndes Co., GA, in the home of William & Frances Sharp, next door to his maternal grandparents. In 1875 he is living in Providence, RI, with his mother and two brothers, near Albert F. Remington & William H. Remington and their families. In 1880 H. S. Remington is age 21, living at Quitman, Brooks Co., GA, with his brother C. H. and his mother E. P. Remington. He is a painter.

In 1900 Hamilton and his wife Mary are living at Savannah, Chatham Co., GA. They have three children: Hamilton, Florence, & Katie. In 1910 Hamilton & Mary are at Columbus, Muscogee Co., GA; Katie is with them. The census data says they have had 6 children, and 3 are still living.

Hamilton married Mary Unknown Between 1882 and 1885. Mary was born Abt 1867, SC; died Aft 18 Apr 1910. [Group Sheet]

In the 1920 Federal Census, Charles H. & Lottie (?) Remington are living at Cedartown, Polk Co., GA. He is 27 and she is 25. They have one daughter, Sara, age 3 (?).

In the 1930 Federal Census, Henton C. Remington, age 37 GA, is living at Statesboro City, Bulloch Co., GA. This is Charles H. The census data shows his father as born in GA and his mother in VA. His wife Lottie L. Remington is now age 35 and Sarah E. is 13. They have two other daughters: Margaret S. (or G) 9, and Dorothy E. 5.
