    David C. Pierce is age 57 in the 1850 Federal Census at New Bedford, living with his second (or third?) wife Mary (Maria) age 52, Stephen age 29 (a ship carpenter), David B. age 20 (a house carpenter), and Lydia A. age 18. I don't know if Stephen was a son born to Hope before their marriage, or born to David and an earlier wife. That is certainly possible.

    Four members of a Houghton family are also living in the household: John R. 25, Ann S. 33, Wm. H. 4, and Anna B. 2.

    Notes:

    According to "The Pierce Project" web site, Seabury and family lived in New Bedford, MA, & Barre, VT.

    The death record for his daughter, Alice G. Harps, says Seabury was born in Somerset., MA. I am not sure of this.

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Seabury & Hope Peirce, ages 38 & 35, are living at Tiverton, RI, with their four children: Alice 12, Seabury 7, Phebe 9, & Ella 4.

    In the MA State Census of 1 May 1865, Seabury, Phebe, and Ella are living in New Bedford.

    Seabury is on the tax list for 1866 at Orange, VT. He died there 31 March 1873 at age 60 y 10 m. His occupation was given as cooper.

    Seabury married Phebe Remington 10 Dec 1834, New Bedford, MA. Phebe (daughter of Thomas REMINGTON and Alice "Elce" GRINNELL) was born Abt 1815, Tiverton, Newport Co., RI; died Aft 1 May 1865; was buried , Rural Cemetery, New Bedford, MA. [Group Sheet]

    His middle name was probably Remington. He may have married his stepsister or other relative of his stepmother, Maria Fuller. His family, including wife, daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, are at New Bedford in the 1880 Federal Census.

    Thomas married Lucy B. Fuller 1 Jan 1851. Lucy was born 12 Feb 1832, MA; died 17 May 1903; was buried , Rural Cemetery, New Bedford, MA. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    David is age 20 in the 1850 Federal Census at New Bedford, and living with his family (which includes his stepmother). In the 1880 US Census, there is a David P. Pierce living in California, a miner, born 1830 MA, widowed. Could this be the same individual?

    Notes:

    Lydia age is given as 18 in the 1850 Federal Census at New Bedford, where she is living with her family (which at that time includes her stepmother). However, if the age on her gravestone is correct, she would have been not quite 15 at the time of the census in 1850.

    She is the Lydia A. Boyle who is buried in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford, next to David & Hope Peirce. She died at age 43 y 5 m 6 d, and is buried with a 10-month-old "babe" named Hope Ann Davis. Is this her child?

    Lydia A. Boyle died at age 43 y 5 m 6 d of Paralysis.

    In the 1900 Federal Census, Alice is married to William Harps and is living at New Bedford, MA. The census gives her age as 50 and her date of birth as Oct 1849; however, she is actually about 64 years old, since she was born in 1836.

    Her middle name was probably Grinnell. Alice died at the age of 81y 1m 21d, of cerebral hemorrage, on 25 Nov 1917.

    Alice is buried at Rural Cemetery in New Bedford, MA. This cemetery lot has family members of the surnames Remington, Pierce, Briggs, Swift, Harps, Achorn, & Akin. It is next to the lot of David Pierce, his two wives, and other extended family members.

    Alice married Charles Russell Hicks Abt 1858. Charles (son of John Russell Hicks and Emma Unknown) was born Abt Feb 1834, RI; died Aft Jun 1900. [Group Sheet]
