"W. G. JOHNSON, JR., (Big Island Township) is the son of W. G. and Elizabeth Johnson, and was born November 9, 1853, in Marion. He obtained his education in the common school -- sufficient for most practical purposes. He is one of Big Island's enterprising Young Men, having been engaged the past nine years in manufacturing and shipping lumber -- often 150,000 feet to one city. He has also handled 85,000 railroad ties, and followed agriculture to a considerable extent. At present, he and a partner are building the Rayl & Uncapber Pike, four miles in length, at $2100 per mile. He owns five acres within the corporation of Marion, upon which he intends building a good house this fall (1883). He is a bachelor, and lives with and cares for his parents."
