  1. 1.  Daniel Remington was born Abt 1785, VT; died 5 Sep 1865, Franklin, Delaware Co., NY.

    Notes:

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Daniel & Nancy, ages 65 & 55, are living at Franklin, Delaware Co., NY. With them are four of their chidlren: Wilson 26, Maria 19, Ann E. 17, & Harriett 15.

    In 1860 Daniel is age 75, still living in Franklin and apparently widowed. With him is son Wilson, married to Betsey and with an infant son; also daughter Maria is in the household. In addition, Sally N. Rich, age 60 is listed last. Is she Daniel's wife listed with her maiden name, or is she a sister-in-law?

    The 1850 census has Daniel's birthplace as NY, but the 1860 says VT, which I think is correct.

    The following information was found on the Delaware County, NY, web site:

    At an annual meeting held in school District No 16 in Franklin, NY, on the evening of 6 of Oct 1834, among the officers elected for the ensuing year was Daniel Remington.

    In 1853/54 Daniel Remington paid $25 toward the construction of a Baptist church in East Franklin, NY.

    Daniel died at age 80 of inflammation of the lungs.

    Daniel married Nancy Rich Abt 1813. Nancy was born Abt 1795, NY; died Aft 1 Jun 1850. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    George may have been handicapped or retarded in some way. He is single and living in Franklin, Delaware Co., NY, in the 1860 and 1870 censuses. Later he is listed among the residents of the Utica Asylum (1877) and Willard Asylum (1878 - 1885), as George (R. or B.) Remington of Franklin, NY. I have wondered if he might belong in Samuel's family, based on census data and family names; but he is placed in this family group in Lois Remington Smith's genealogy, so I am placing him here likewise.

    In the 1860 Federal Census, Orren and his wife and son are living at Fitchville, Huron Co., OH.

    Notes:

    In 1860 & 1870, Wilson & Betsey are living at Franklin, Delaware Co., NY. They have two sons, Berkeley & Tracy. In 1860 they are living with Daniel Remington, Wilson's father. In both 1860 & 1870, Sally Rich, ages 60/74 b CT, is living with them. Also in 1870, Julia Remington 55 NY, is either with them or next door, along with two members of the Zabrisky family, Mary 30 & Lizzie 7. Julia appears to be the widow of Seba Remington; Seba is Wilson's first cousin -- if this family tree data is correct.

    In 1880 the family is still at Franklin, NY: Wilson 55, Betsy 47, Birkly R. 20, & Tracy E. 18. Also in the household is Sally Rich, 82, aunt.

    Wilson married Betsey Hine 8 Nov 1854. Betsey (daughter of Riley Hine) was born 7 Jul 1832, Meredith, Delaware Co., NY; died Aft 1 Jun 1900. [Group Sheet]

    Probably not -- because in the 1850 census there is a Milton Remington, age 33 NY, living at Norwalk, OH.

    In the same census there is a Milton Remington, 26 NY, married to Susan and living at Venice, Cayuga Co., NY. They have an infant son Abner. Perhaps this family group belongs to Daniel & Nancy.

    Notes:

    I have made an assumption that the Miss Remington who married Rev. L. W. Jackson, is Maria. Her age and place of residence at marriage match. In the censuses, her name is given as N. Maria Jackson. Perhaps her first name was Nancy, after her mother's name, but she was customarily called Maria.

    Notes:

    Tracy E. Remington served on jury duty in 1892 & 1893 at Croton; and in 1895 & 1897 at Treadwell. Both of these villages are in Franklin, NY.

    The 1900 census has his birth year as 1863. In the census he is widowed and living at Franklin, Delaware Co., NY, with his widowed mother, Betsy, age 67.

    By 1910 he has remarried to Kate.
