In the will of Molly's father, she is called Molly Niall, and the will was witnessed by a Benjamin Niall. For this reason, it has been believed that she was married to Benjamin Niall.

However, the will of Samuel Viall mentions his wife Molly.

In the 1830 Federal Census, there is a Samuel W. Remington residing at Rehoboth, Bristol County, MA. Probably that is this Samuel.

BSR's Remington Ancestry Chart has Enoch's date of birth as 1 January 1795. Perhaps that was a baptism? Unfortunately, neither BSR or M. Benns gives any sources notes.

The RI Cemetery Database says 1792. Cause of death is noted as sunstroke.

Ruth is mentioned in the will of her grandfather Enoch Remington. Boyd Scott Remington has her birth date as 28 Dec 1792, but this is not possible if her brother was born in May of 1793. In the 1870 Federal Census, I believe this is the Ruth Kent, age 76, residing in East Providence, RI. This would make her birth year c.1793. In the household with her are Russel D. Kent, age 51 (probably her son ?); Abby ann Kent, age 51 (probably Russel's wife ?); Clara A., 20; and Anna R., 15. All are born in RI, except Russel in MA.

Notes from "The Armington Family in America": Dr. Hervey Armington was an eminently successful physician in Providence from about the year 1828 until his death. In his younger years he was a sailor, then traveled to Cincinnati, OH; Philadelphia, PA; & Pittsburgh, PA. In Ohio he studied medicine in a doctor's office and at Ohio Medical College, graduating in 1822. He returned to Providence around 1825.

Hervey married Ardelia Allin 29 Dec 1825. Ardelia (daughter of Samuel P. Allin and Hannah Baker) was born 20 Apr 1803; died 2 Feb 1876; was buried , Swan Point Cemetery, Blackstone Blvd., Providence, RI. [Group Sheet]

In the 1850 Federal Census, William is age 22, living with his mother and others at Warren, Bristol Co., RI. In the 1880 Federal Census, it may be this couple, William A. & Maria L. Remington, both aged 52, who are living in Geneseo, Henry Co., Illinois. Their birthplaces and those of their parents match this couple.

Yes, it must be. In the 1870 Federal Census, at Davenport, Scott Co., Iowa, this household is listed: William Remington 40 MA, Maria Remington 38 MA, Henry Remington 14 RI, Maria Remington 3 IA, Charles Talbot 20 RI, Harriet Remmington 65 MA, & Mary Coleman 20 Ireland.

William and his brother John may have married sisters, as both wives have the surname Cole.

In the 1850 Federal Census, Samuel B. Remington is age 18, a clerk, and living in Ward 6, Providence, RI, with grocer George & Maria Robinson. However, he appears to be listed also in Warren, where his mother and brothers are living. There he is a clerk age 17.

In the Federal Census of 1870, the family is at Providence, RI, as follows: B. Samuel Remington 37 MA, W. Harriet 37 MA, W. Samuel 12 RI, and A. Grace 8 RI; also Ellen Larey 24 Ireland, domestic servant.

In the 1880 Federal Census, Samuel & Harriett are at Providence with their two children.

In the 1900 Federal Census, Samuel & Harriet are living on Dartmouth Ave. in Providence, with their daughter Grace and her husband Richard Knight, and their two children Howard & Annie.

In the 1910 Federal Census, Samuel & Harriet are living at 15 Benevolent St. in Providence, RI, still with Richard & Grace Knight.

In the 1870 Federal Census, M. John Remington is age 35 MA, and his wife Belle is 31 RI. They are living at Providence, and have a daughter Ida one month old.

In 1900, John & Isabella are living at East Providence, RI. Their daughter Ida and her husband Thomas Tarbox are in the household with them.

John and his brother William may have married sisters, as both wives have the surname Cole.

Boyd Scott Remington's ancestry chart has different information for Samuel's family. He says that Samuel married Eliza H. Hutchins of Seekonk on 5 March 1840, in Hartford, CT. He lists two children: Edwin S. & Eliphalet. (no sources are noted for any of this)

It is possible that the February date in Seekonk was a marriage intention, and that the marriage took place in Hartford in March.

Samuel's gravestone says he died 29 Nov 1844, although I may have misread it.

In the 1880 Federal Census, Jeremiah & Hannah are still in Providence, RI. They are boarding at the home of Margaret Arnold on High St. Their daughter N. R. Wolfendale is with them, and their 1-year-old grandson, Harrold.

The RI Cemetery Database gives Jeremiah's date of birth as 6 Feb 1827, and notes the cause of death as "malignant growth of throat."

In the 1850 Federal Census, Daniel S. & Caroline E. are living in Providence, Ward 5, with an infant son. In 1860 the family is in Ward 6, Providence, with 4 children.

He is probably the D. S. Remington, Adjutant, RI Vets Assoc. in 1881 and other years.

Daniel S. Remington was in the Civil War, RI 7th Infantry, Battalion CGB. He was First Lieutenant and Captain, and commanded Company C in 1865.

See this excerpt from "History of Providence County, Rhode Island, Vol. I," Ed. Richard M. Bayles, NY: W. W. Preston & Co., 1891, p. 208 ff: "There remained still in the field Companies B, D and G of the re-enlisted veterans of the 4th Rhode Island, and the recruits belonging to the Seventh, whose term of service had not expired. These, by special order of the war department, were formed into a battalion of three companies, to be known as 'Battalion Seventh Rhode Island Volunteers'. This organization was continued until July 13th, 1865, when the battalion was mustered out of service near Alexandria, VA. The men, about 200 in number, returned to Providence under the command of Captain Caleb T. Bowen, with Adjutant George B. Costello and Surgeon C. G. Corey. The other commissioned officers were Captain Daniel S. Remington and Lieutenant A. R. Collins, Company B; Captain Winthrop A. Moore and Lieutenant Merchant Weeden, Company D; Lieutenant C. Goffe, Company G. The battalion reached Providence at 3 o'clock Wednesday morning, July 17th, and was refreshed with a bountiful breakfast, prepared by direction of Captain Crandall."

I have made an assumption that Russel belongs in this family group, because he and his family are living with Harriet Kent in the 1870 Federal Census. His year of birth fits the time frame, also.

In the 1870 Federal Census, Russel and Abby Ann are both age 51, living in East Providence, RI, with his mother, Ruth Kent. Also in the home are two daughters, Clara A. & Anna R. In the 1880 Federal Census, Russel is a widower, age 61, living at East Providence with his daughter's family, William & Lucy Houghton and their four children. They are living next door to William & Betsey Armington, and nearby Russel's sister and brother-in-law, Hannah R. & Isaac B. Kent.
