  1. 1.  Josiah Remington was born 22 Sep 1784, Granville, MA; died Bef 22 Feb 1836, Freedom, Portage Co., OH; was buried , Drakesburg Cemetery, Freedom, Portage Co., OH.

    Notes:

    I am making an assumption that this is the same Josiah who is listed in the 1820 & 1830 Federal Census as residing at Tolland, Hampden County, MA. This is likely because his father Anthony is there at the same time; Josiah is listed along with Charles, Anthony, John, & Holden.

    Perhaps he moved to Ohio around the time his father did, c 1833.

    The following note is from Karen Hermann:
    "The land records for Josiah Remington place him in Tolland, MA, in Oct 1833 and in Freedom, OH, in June 1834; since his father Anthony died in Freedom on 31 Nov 1833, according to the Anthony's pension record, I believe Josiah was the one who brought him to Ohio. He stated in an affidavit in 1823 that Josiah was his only means of support."

    Seaman's Protection Certificate #4263, Customs District New London, issued 18 May 1807: Josiah Remington -- birthplace Granville, MA; age 22, complexion dark, height 5'11", little finger of left hand crooked.

    Josiah married Sarah "Sally" Sherman Abt Feb 1807, Granville, MA. Sarah (daughter of Joseph Sherman and Elizabeth Unknown) was born 9 May 1783, Brimfield, Hampden Co., MA; was buried , Drakesburg Cemetery, Freedom, Portage Co., OH. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Maria Parshal is age 26 b MA, living at Ravenna, Portage Co., OH. She is a milliner. Her two young daughters are with her: Sarah O. 3 PA, & Mozette (Maryette?) 1 OH.

    By 1860 Waty Maria has remarried to Roswell Sage, and may have had one to three children by him (see notes for Roswell Sage).

    Waty married Moses Parshall Bef 1847. Moses was born 10 Jan 1810, Ellsworth, Mahoning Co., OH; died 16 Aug 1848, Ravenna, OH. [Group Sheet]
