  1. 1.  Patience Arnold was born 4 Dec 1747, Warwick, RI; died 31 Jul 1775; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Pawtuxet, RI.

    Notes:

In her father's will, she is called Patience Sweet (?). This may simply be a mis-transcription of Smith.

  2. 3.  Israel Smith Descendancy chart to this point (1.Patience1) was born 27 Oct 1768, Cranston, RI.

  3. 4.  Mary "Polly" C. Smith Descendancy chart to this point (1.Patience1) was born 6 Nov 1770; died 6 Nov 1842; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Pawtuxet, Warwick, RI.

    Notes:

    Mary was known as Polly.

From Cranston Land Evidence 7-19, dated 25 Sept 1802: Charles Remington of Cranston, mariner, sold property to James Rhodes, merchant, for $750. The transaction included "one lot of land in Cranston in part called Pawtuxet." It was "bounded westerly on Main St., northerly by land of Remington Sheldon, and southerly on said Sheldon." This was sold "together with dwelling house -- barn & buildings -- was purchased by me of Rhodes Greene in April 1786" (should be 1796 -- note by Mary E. Rice) . . . "I, the said Polly Remington, wife of said Charles Remington, releases dower." (sic) This was signed by Charles Remington & Mary Remington, and witnessed by John A. Aborn & Patience Smith.

Again, on 4 Dec 1805, a Cranston deed includes the following: "I, Mary or Polly Remington, wife of the above named Charles Remington, releases dower." It was signed by Charles and Polly Remington.

From the records of the First Baptist Church of Providence, RI: Mrs. Mary Remington (date of membership or baptism?) Not known Nov. 16, 1806, L (letter?) to Pawtuxet church. W. of Charles.

Notes from the Mary E. Rice Collection, concerning Cranston Land Evidence, deed bk #1 pp. 584 & 585, dated 17 Oct 1825: Mary C. Remington, widow of Charles, deceased late of said Cranston, mariner, and William Henry Aborn of Providence, merchant, and his wife Harriot Angeline Aborn . . . " The content concerned the release of all debts pertaining to the estate of Charles, also a release to Samuel Aborn Condy and wife Maria Frances. (Maria & Harriet were sisters, and daughters of Charles & Mary)

The announcement of her death said she died "after 4 yrs. 6 mos. suffering."

Her gravestone has this saying: [she died] "after 4 years and 6 months of suffering which she endured with calm resignation and solid hope of Heaven."

The 2003 supplement to the book "Descendants of Roger Williams, Waterman and Winsor Lines" has her date of birth as 6 November 1776. Depending on whether she was born in 1770 or 1776, determines which of Stephen's wives was her mother. She did have a granddaughter named Phebe, but whether this is a clue that her mother was Phebe is debatable.

Mary married Charles Remington 1793. Charles (son of Peleg Remington, I and Waite Rhodes) was born 1772; died 8 Jan 1810, Sierre Leone, Africa; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Pawtuxet, Warwick, RI. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

He died at sea on a passage from Providence, RI, to Savannah, GA.

The RI Cemetery Database/ gravestone data has his date of death as 23 Nov 1812.

The Providence Gazette: Date: 1812-12-26; Vol XLVIII, Iss 2557, Page 3:

"PORT OF PROVIDENCE. Cleared. Arrived on Tuesday, sloop Fair Rosamond, Gonsalve, six days from Wilmington (NC), Came passenger Capt. Benjamin Bowen, late master of the brig Defiance, of this port, who states, that on the 15th Of Nov last the brig sailed from New York, bound for Savannah; that nothing material occurred until the 24th when beginning in lat. 33:21 N. and long. 78:39 W. the brig being under short sail, was about 12 at night upset by a violent squall from S.W. The crew and passengers saved themselves by getting on the side of the vessel, except three, who perished in the attempt; at half past 12 A.M. both masts went by the board; that the brig then righted, being full of water; the main mast in going split the deck in such a manner that it was impossible to free her of water; the weather proved boisterous, and the sea making a continual breach over her until the 26th, when one of the passengers diving into the cabin an axe was obtained; they were then enabled to clear the masts and yards from alongside; the brig continued driving about at the mercy of the winds and waves until the 29th, when they were fortunately taken off the wreck by the crew of the schr. Franklin, Capt. Nickenson, of New Bedford, who treated them politely. They arrived off Cape Fear Bar on the 30th, and on the 1st of Dec the wreck was discovered on the Frying Pan Shoal. The weather being moderate, a part of her cargo is saved. The persons drowned were Russell W. Allen, son of Mr. Joseph Allen, of this town; STEPHEN S. REMINGTON, of Pawtuxet; and Jenckes Perkins, of Connecticut. The two latter were found in the cabin after the wreck went on shore, and were interred on Cape Fear in as decent a manner as circumstances would admit."

  2. 8.  Maria Frances Remington Descendancy chart to this point (4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born 12 Feb 1796; died 6 Jul 1882; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Warwick, RI.

    Notes:

In the 1880 Federal Census, Maria F. Condy is 84 and boarding with Harriet A. Aborn 77 who is "keeping house." The two widows are living at Providence, RI. I am making an assumption that these are two Remington sisters, since marriage records show that Harriet was d/o "Capt. Charles" and Maria was "d/o Charles."

This assumption has since been confirmed by several other sources.

Notes from the Mary E. Rice Collection, concerning Cranston Land Evidence, deed bk #1 pp. 584 & 585, dated 17 Oct 1825: Mary C. Remington, widow of Charles, deceased late of said Cranston, mariner, and William Henry Aborn of Providence, merchant, and his wife Harriot Angeline Aborn . . . " The content of this transaction concerned the release of all debts pertaining to the estate of Charles, also a release to Samuel Aborn Condy and wife Maria Frances. (Maria & Harriet were sisters.)

Maria married Thomas Hollis Condy, Jr. 23 Aug 1815. Thomas (son of Thomas Hollis Condy, Sr. and Mary "Polly" Aborn) was born 9 Aug 1791; died 16 Jul 1821, Savannah, GA. [Group Sheet]

Maria married Samuel Aborn Condy Aft 1821. Samuel (son of Thomas Hollis Condy, Sr. and Mary "Polly" Aborn) was born 27 Oct 1792, Boston, MA; died 3 Sep 1849, Pawtuxet, RI; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Warwick, RI. [Group Sheet]

  3. 9.  Charles Remington, Jr. Descendancy chart to this point (4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born Between 1798 and 1799; died 2 Nov 1819, Savannah, GA; was buried , Savannah, GA.

    Notes:

Reported in the death notices of the New York Evening Post, 17 Nov 1819: "Savannah, 2nd inst., Charles Remington, 21"

  4. 10.  Anne Louisa Remington Descendancy chart to this point (4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born Abt 1801, RI; died 24 Oct 1865; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Warwick, RI.

    Notes:

In various places her name has been spelled as Annloire, Anneloire, Ann Louisa, and Ann L. The Remington genealogy from Virginia Adair (and given to the Roger Williams Family Association) has Louisa, b1800, marrying George Moore. It also lists another sister named "Samiloire" who supposedly also married George Moore. According to James N. Arnold's transcription of the Cranston records, the two were married on the exact same date, but two years apart. It seems clear to me that this is the same individual, and that there must have been an error in the transcription, perhaps recorded some time afterwards. In the 1860 Federal Census, George & Ann L. Moore are living in Providence, RI. Her age fits "Louisa" in the typed genealogy from Mrs. Adair.

Also, the RI Cemetery Database has her name as Ann Louisa (Remington) Morse, d/o Capt. Charles Remington, and w/o George Morse. Possibly Moore was misread on the gravestone as Morse.

However, their marriage announcement in the Providence Phenix identifies the couple as Ann Louisa Remington & George Morse.

The marriage record says she was "of Charles."

Anne married George Morse 22 Jul 1824, Pawtuxet, Cranston, RI. George was born Abt 1799, MA; died 11 Aug 1872; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Warwick, RI. [Group Sheet]

    Children:
    1. 14. Mary Louisa Morse  Descendancy chart to this point was born Abt 1825; died 1 Sep 1825; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Warwick, RI.
    2. 15. George Morse  Descendancy chart to this point was born 1831; died 9 Jun 1849; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Warwick, RI.
    3. 16. Charles Remington Morse  Descendancy chart to this point was born 1833, RI; died 1907; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Warwick, RI.
    4. 17. Mary Helen Morse  Descendancy chart to this point was born 1834, RI; died 1920; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Warwick, RI.
    5. 18. Edwin Morse  Descendancy chart to this point was born Abt 1841, RI; died 3 Mar 1895; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Warwick, RI.

  5. 11.  Harriet Angeline Remington Descendancy chart to this point (4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born 25 Dec 1803, Pawtuxet, RI; died 19 May 1881; was buried , Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, RI.

    Notes:

In the 1880 Federal Census, Harriet A. Aborn a. 77 is "keeping house," and Maria F. Condy a. 84 is boarding with her. The two widows are living at Providence, RI. I am making an assumption that they are sisters, since marriage records show that Harriet was d/o "Capt. Charles" and Maria was "d/o Charles."

This has since been confirmed by data from other sources.

I wonder if Harriet A. and Henry A. were twins? If not, she must have been born early in 1803, or even in 1802.

According to the RI Cemetery Database, the cause of her death was paralysis.

Harriet married William Henry Aborn Abt 30 Jan 1825, Pawtuxet, RI. William was born 1799; died 19 Nov 1872; was buried , Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, RI. [Group Sheet]

  6. 12.  Henry Adolphus Remington Descendancy chart to this point (4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born 25 Dec 1803, Pawtuxet, RI; died 11 Nov 1870, Providence, RI; was buried , Sion Arnold Lot, Richottes Ct., West Warwick, RI.

    Notes:

Henry served as a cabinet maker's apprentice under Robert Niles. He later engaged in agricultural pursuits and became a prosperous farmer.

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Henry A., 46, & Sally A., 47, are living in Warwick, RI. Their children in the home are: Charles, 24, a clerk; William A., 23, a miner; Horatio A., 21, a machinist; Henry A., 16; Sarah A., 12; and Phebe A., 10.

In the 1870 Federal Census, the family is in Providence, RI. Henry A. is age 66, "Sallie" A. is 66, Sarah A. is 33, and Phebe A. is 29. Also in the household is Marrietta Remington, 14, b.c. 1856 in Georgia. Could she be a daughter of William Aborn Remington from one of his marriages? (needs research) In a deed dated 13 Nov 1853 at Warwick, William A. Remington was said to be "of Marietta in the State of Georgia."

Henry's death record identifies him as "son of Charles."

Notes from the Mary E. Rice Collection, concerning Cranston land evidence, deed 19-435: Henry A. Remington & Sarah Ann Remington of Warwick, RI, sold land to Maria F. Condy of Cranston, RI, wife of Samuel A. Condy. This property had previously been sold to Charles Remington by Ezra Dean. (Maria is a sister of Henry.)

Warwick land evidence, bk. 9 p. 366, in re: Sion Arnold, Henry A. Remington, etc.; this document says that Henry A. Remington is "guardian of persons & Estates of Phebe Remington, Sarah Remington, & Henry Remington infants under the age of 21 years, being heirs of Sion Arnold together with the said Horatio A., Charles, and one William A. Remington . . the said Sally Ann Remington, their mother." It was signed 15 July 1853 by Charles Remington, Henry A. Remington, Sally A. Remington, Horatio A. Remington, & Martha A. Remington (w/o Horatio).

Henry married Sarah "Sally" Ann Arnold 22 Dec 1825, Coventry, RI. Sarah (daughter of Sion Arnold and Phebe Arnold) was born 5 Oct 1803, Scituate, RI; died 22 Feb 1893, Providence, RI; was buried , Pocasset Cemetery, Cranston, RI. [Group Sheet]

    Children:

    2. 20. William Aborn Remington  Descendancy chart to this point was born 8 Apr 1828, Pawtuxet, RI; died 21 Jun 1895, Atlanta, GA.
    3. 21. Horatio Arnold Remington  Descendancy chart to this point was born 9 Mar 1830, Pawtuxet, RI; died 5 May 1900, River Point, RI; was buried , Woodland Cemetery, Washington St. & Knotty Oak Rd., Coventry, RI.
    4. 22. Henry Adolphus (1) Remington  Descendancy chart to this point was born 17 Nov 1833, Pawtuxet, RI; died 17 Aug 1834, RI.
    5. 23. Henry Adolphus (2) Remington  Descendancy chart to this point was born 7 Aug 1835, Pawtuxet, RI; died 13 Nov 1912, Providence, RI; was buried , Riverside Cemetery, Pawtucket, RI.
    6. 24. Sarah Augusta Remington  Descendancy chart to this point was born 24 Feb 1838; died 1905; was buried , Pocasset Cemetery, Cranston, RI.
    7. 25. Phebe Ann Remington  Descendancy chart to this point was born 2 Sep 1841; died 4 May 1912, Providence, RI; was buried , Pocasset Cemetery, Cranston, RI.
    8. 26. Mary Smith Remington  Descendancy chart to this point was born 22 Mar 1845, Centerville, RI; died 27 Jun 1845.

  7. 13.  Albert F. Remington, Sr. Descendancy chart to this point (4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born Between 1805 and 1806, RI; died 9 Jan 1881, RI.

    Notes:

The Rhode Island Death Index identifies Alfred F. Remington as a son of Charles & Mary Remington. I have made an assumption that he belongs in this particular family group, because I know of no other couple named Charles & Mary in this time frame. Also, the names of Alfred's children are important clues that reflect the names of his siblings.

In the 1850 Federal Census, Alfred F. & Eliza Remington, ages 45 & 42, are living in Cranston, RI. They have four children: Harriet 19, Charles 12, Albert 4, & Henry E. 2.

In the 1860 Federal Census, Albert F. & Eliza Remington, ages 54 & 51, are still living in Cranston. Three of their children are in the household: Charles 22, Albert F. 16, & Henry A. 12.

In 1870 they are in Ward 9, Providence, RI: Albert F. is 65 and Eliza R. is 60; Henry E. is 22.

By 1880, Albert & Eliza have an empty nest. He is age 74 and an invalid; she is 71. They are living in District 53, Providence, RI.

Albert married Eliza A. Read 1 May 1828, Providence, RI. Eliza (daughter of Peter Read and Margaret Unknown) was born Between 1808 and 1810, MA; died 31 Mar 1884, RI. [Group Sheet]

    Children:
    1. 27. Harriet A. Remington  Descendancy chart to this point was born Between 1830 and 1831, RI; died Aft 1 Jun 1880.
    2. 28. Charles Augustus Remington  Descendancy chart to this point was born Abt 1835, RI; died 18 Oct 1837, RI; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Pawtuxet, RI.
    3. 29. Eliza Augusta Remington  Descendancy chart to this point was born Abt 1835, RI; died 16 Jan 1835, RI; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Pawtuxet, RI.
    4. 30. Charles Augustus Remington  Descendancy chart to this point was born Abt 1838, Providence, RI; died 14 Apr 1895, RI.
    5. 31. Albert F. Remington, Jr.  Descendancy chart to this point was born Between 1844 and 1846, RI; died 23 Feb 1899, RI; was buried , North Burial Ground, Providence, RI.
    6. 32. Henry E. Remington  Descendancy chart to this point was born Abt 1848, RI; died 23 Jun 1886, RI.

Generation: 4

  1. 14.  Mary Louisa Morse Descendancy chart to this point (10.Anne3, 4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born Abt 1825; died 1 Sep 1825; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Warwick, RI.

  2. 15.  George Morse Descendancy chart to this point (10.Anne3, 4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born 1831; died 9 Jun 1849; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Warwick, RI.

    Notes:

I have made an assumption that this George Morse in the RI Cemetery Database is a son of George and Anne Louisa. He is of the correct age to be their son, and is buried in the same cemetery. I have checked their cemetery plot and there is a George buried there, but the stone is mostly illegible.

  3. 16.  Charles Remington Morse Descendancy chart to this point (10.Anne3, 4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born 1833, RI; died 1907; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Warwick, RI.

  4. 17.  Mary Helen Morse Descendancy chart to this point (10.Anne3, 4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born 1834, RI; died 1920; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Warwick, RI.

  5. 18.  Edwin Morse Descendancy chart to this point (10.Anne3, 4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born Abt 1841, RI; died 3 Mar 1895; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Warwick, RI.

  6. 19.  Charles Remington Descendancy chart to this point (12.Henry3, 4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born 15 Dec 1826, Pawtuxet, RI; died 30 Dec 1904, RI.

    Notes:

In the 1850 Federal Census, Charles is age 24, a clerk, living with his family in Warwick, RI. There was another Charles Remington living in RI in 1850 -- a clerk, age 21, living in a hotel in Ward 5, Providence. Who is he? Could he be the same individual counted twice?

According to an 1895 article in "Club and Professional Life of Rhode Island" about Henry Adolphus Remington (Jr.), his brother Charles was living in Providence at that time. No other details are given about Charles. It does confirm that their brother William died in Atlanta, GA.

  7. 20.  William Aborn Remington Descendancy chart to this point (12.Henry3, 4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born 8 Apr 1828, Pawtuxet, RI; died 21 Jun 1895, Atlanta, GA.

    Notes:

In the 1850 Federal Census, William is age 23, living in Warwick, RI, with his parents and siblings. He is a miner. William married in 1851, subsequently went south to Georgia, but presumably returned by the time his first wife Chloe died in 1856. After this he went back to Georgia, where he can be found in later censuses.

In a deed dated 13 Nov 1853 at Warwick, William A. Remington was said to be "of Marietta in the State of Georgia." Henry A. & Sally Ann Remington are also named in this deed.

William was widowed, probably twice. In the 1860 Federal Census, living at Marietta, Cobb Co., GA, in the household of G. T. Northup & family, are the following: W. A. Remington, 33 b. NJ, a carpenter; F. J. Remington, 24 b. NY (next to name it says William -- perhaps meaning his wife?); and Ella Remington, 1 b. GA. This is almost certainly William Aborn Remington of RI (see census data for 1870).

In the 1870 Federal Census, there is a William A. Remington, age 42, b. RI, living at Cartersville, Bartow, GA. This is the correct age for William Aborn Remington. Also in the home are Ellen L. Remington, 11; William H. Remington, 9; and George T. Remington, 5; these three children were all born in Georgia. He has no wife in the home, so it is reasonable to assume that his wife, mother of these children, has died. They are living next to or near to Simeon & Hester Smith and family.

In the 1880 Federal Census, William & Mary (assumed third wife) and their family are residing at 3rd Ward, District 13, Athens, Clarke Co., GA; W. A. Remington is 50, Mary E. is 36, Earnest W. is 7, and Lola G. is 5.

It is possible that William had another daughter named Marietta, because back in RI, the 1870 Federal Census lists a Marrietta Remington, age 14, b. GA (c1856), living in Providence with William's parents, Henry & Sally Remington. She could be the daughter of Chloe, because they must have gone to Georgia and then back to Massachusetts, where Chloe's death is in the Rehoboth, MA, vital records. This is one possible scenario. (see above note concerning deed dated 13 Nov 1853)

However, the RI Death Index lists a daughter of William & Chloe who would have been born c1856 -- Carrie C. Remington, who died 31 Mar 1876. The name Carrie does not sound at all like Marietta, so it is not certain that they are the same individual -- unless she was called by very different names at times.

From the web site newenglandancestors.org -- see "Rehoboth, MA, vital records": "1851 REMINGTON, William A., aged 23, of Providence, son of H. A. and Sally A., and Chloe Carpenter, aged 20, of Rehoboth, daughter of Asaph and Caroline, married by Rev. Charles P. Grosvenor June 8, 1851. Int. June 8, 1851. 8 6 Marriage." (This is very likely the first marriage for this particular William.)

    "1856 REMINGTON - , of William and Chloe, 1 day, Nov. 11, 1856 8 14 Death"

    "1856 REMINGTON Chloe, wife of William A., 26y 1m 9d, Dec. 24, 1856 8 15 Death"

See DAR Founders & Patriots Line # 4617.

    Notes:

In the 1880 Federal Census, Horatio & Martha are at Warwick, Kent Co., RI.

Notes from "History of Washington and Kent Counties," pp. 1296 & 1297: Horatio A. Remington was born in Cranston in 1830. His father Henry A. Remington was a son of Capt. Charles Remington who came from England and died in 1812 (this is inaccurate). Henry was a mechanic, but in 1842 he settled on a farm. Six years later the son, Horatio A., left home to learn the machinist's trade. After working at his trade for about 17 years, he in 1866 became junior partner with S. Colvin & Co., at River Point, in the manufacture of looms. His wife was Martha A. Knight. He has two sons: Charles Banks, now an Academy student, and Edgar Wilson, MD, of Providence.

Horatio married Martha A. Unknown Abt 1855. Martha was born 30 Jan 1831, RI; died 30 Jan 1912, Providence, RI; was buried , Woodland Cemetery, Washington St. & Knotty Oak Rd., Coventry, RI. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

I am making an assumption that this marriage to Mary is for this particular Henry A. Remington, Jr., and that this family group found in the 1870 Federal Census at Providence is for him. His age in the census (35) fits his date of birth. In the Rhode Island Census of 1875, Henry H. Remington is 40, Mary is 39, Anna F. is 14, Charles H. is 9, and Mary H. is 7. The same couple appears to be in the 1900 Federal Census at Providence, and the dates agree, except Henry's dob is given as 7 Aug 1833. Their daughter Mary is a school teacher, age 33.

In the Federal Census of 1910, Henry & Mary Remington, ages 75 & 70, are living on Potter Avenue, Providence, RI. They have been married 52 years. Henry's occupation is given as Builder & Undertaker.

A city directory says his residence and office were at 55 Ocean St., Providence, RI.

The Henry Remington family Bible has his birth year as 1835 (a copy of this record is in the Mary E. Rice Collection). It says he died at 120 Potter Ave., Providence. Virginia Adair has his birth year as 1834.

Henry married Mary Cassidy 14 Feb 1858, Providence, RI. Mary was born 6 Apr 1836, Ireland; died 12 Jan 1926; was buried , Riverside Cemetery, Pawtucket, RI. [Group Sheet]

The family Bible has her birth year as 1838 (a copy of this record is in the Mary E. Rice Collection). Virginia Adair has the birth year as 1837.

  12. 25.  Phebe Ann Remington Descendancy chart to this point (12.Henry3, 4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born 2 Sep 1841; died 4 May 1912, Providence, RI; was buried , Pocasset Cemetery, Cranston, RI.

    Notes:

She may be boarding on Knight St., Providence (Ward 9, District 245), in 1910. Her age is given as 68.

The family Bible has her birth year as 1841 (a copy of this record is in the Mary E. Rice Collection). It says she died at Carr St., Providence. Virginia Adair has her birth year as 1840.

  13. 26.  Mary Smith Remington Descendancy chart to this point (12.Henry3, 4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born 22 Mar 1845, Centerville, RI; died 27 Jun 1845.

    Notes:

Harriet was probably named for her aunt, Harriet Angelin Remington. For information on Harriet in the censuses, see the notes on her husband, John T. Brightman.

Harriet married John T. Brightman Bef 1858. John was born Between 1820 and 1822, MA; died Aft 1 Jun 1880. [Group Sheet]

    Children:
    1. 45. Emily A. Brightman  Descendancy chart to this point was born Abt 1858, RI; died Bef 1 Jun 1870.

    Notes:

The RI Cemetery Database identifies Charles Augustus & Eliza Augusta as children of Albert E. & Eliza Remington. They may have been twins. I believe Albert's middle initial should read F, because these children are buried near Albert's parents, Charles & Mary.

  16. 29.  Eliza Augusta Remington Descendancy chart to this point (13.Albert3, 4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born Abt 1835, RI; died 16 Jan 1835, RI; was buried , Arnold-Pawtuxet Burial Ground, Harrison St., Pawtuxet, RI.

    Notes:

The RI Cemetery Database identifies Charles Augustus & Eliza Augusta as children of Albert E. & Eliza Remington. They may have been twins. I believe Albert's middle initial should read F, because these children are buried near Albert's parents, Charles & Mary.

  17. 30.  Charles Augustus Remington Descendancy chart to this point (13.Albert3, 4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born Abt 1838, Providence, RI; died 14 Apr 1895, RI.

    Notes:

In the 1850 Federal Census, Charles is age 12 and living with his family in Cranston, RI. In the 1860 Federal Census, Charles is age 22, still living at home with his parents and siblings in Cranston, RI. I have not located him in the 1870 census.

I have made an assumption that this individual in the 1880 Federal Census is the son of Albert & Eliza. Charles's middle initial and date of death were obtained from the Rhode Island Death Index, which identifies Charles A. Remington as the son of Albert & Eliza, and says he he died at the age 57. The age and middle initial agree with the census data in 1880. His wife's death is also recorded on the same page in the Rhode Island Death Index.

In the 1875 Rhode Island Census, his name appears as Charles H. Remington, age 37. His wife Mary S. Remington is 32, while son Amasa E. is 7. The family is at Providence, RI.

Charles married Mary Susan Lincoln 14 Mar 1862, Raynham, MA. Mary (daughter of Amasa Lincoln and Susan Unknown) was born Abt 1843, Raynham, MA; died 23 Apr 1883, RI. [Group Sheet]

    2. 49. Percy Fuller Remington  Descendancy chart to this point was born 28 May 1894, RI; died 6 Sep 1980.

  18. 31.  Albert F. Remington, Jr. Descendancy chart to this point (13.Albert3, 4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born Between 1844 and 1846, RI; died 23 Feb 1899, RI; was buried , North Burial Ground, Providence, RI.

    Notes:

The Rhode Island Death Index identifies him as a son of Albert & Eliza, and says he died at age 54, which would make his year of birth c1845. Census data puts his birth variously at 1844, 1845, and 1846.

Albert is with his parents and siblings in 1850 and 1860. In the 1870 Federal Census Albert F. Remington, age 25, is living with his wife Marietta, age 21, in Ward 1, Providence, RI. They have a young son, Ferdinand, age 2. The RI Death Index records Marietta's death in 1872. In the 1875 RI Census, Albert F. Remington is age 29, (second wife) Lucy is 30, son Ferdinand H. is 7, and daughter Annie E. is 8 months; they are at Providence. In 1880 Albert F. Remington is age 34, still married to Lucy F. and living in District 51, Providence, RI, with their three young children. His son by the first marriage, Ferdinand, is living with Albert's sister, Harriet A. Brightman, and family.

Albert married Marietta A. Macomber 28 Aug 1865, RI. Marietta (daughter of Elijah Macomber and Alice Unknown) was born Between 1848 and 1849, RI; died 22 Oct 1872, Providence, RI. [Group Sheet]

    1. 50. Ferdinand Allerton Remington  Descendancy chart to this point was born 3 Feb 1868, Providence, RI; died 17 Dec 1936, Providence, RI.

  19. 32.  Henry E. Remington Descendancy chart to this point (13.Albert3, 4.Mary2, 1.Patience1) was born Abt 1848, RI; died 23 Jun 1886, RI.

    Notes:

In the 1870 Federal Census, Henry E. Remington is age 22, and is still living with his parents in Providence, RI. In the 1880 Federal Census, Henry E. Remingtion is age 32, boarding with his older sister Harriet A. Brightman and her family, in Providence, RI. His occupation is given as "job work." According to the RI Death Index, Henry E. Remington died at age 37.
