In the 1850 Federal Census, Layton & Betsey Hopkins are living at West Greenwich, RI.
In 1860 Layton is age 67, living at West Greenwich; Catherine Wightman, age 53, is in the household, keeping house. I am wondering if she is the mother of Catherine Whitman who married Layton's grandson, Calvin. (Whitman & Wightman were the same name at that time, and pronounced the same way.) Her age agrees.
In the 1870 census, Layton & Katherine Hopkins, ages 77 & 60, are still at West Greenwich.
There seems to be a question as to where he is buried:
HOPKINS, LAYTON 1793 - 25 JUN 1871, CY066
HOPKINS, LAYTON, MAJOR 1793c - 25 JUN 1871, WG028
