1301 | Cora's birth record says she is the 9th child born to Samuel R. & Laura A. Chafee, but I believe it should say 7th. In the 1900 Federal Census, Cora is age 17 and living at Bristol, RI, with her parents and two siblings. In the 1905 RI census she is age 22, still living with her parents in Bristol at 19 Congregation St. Cora and her husband moved to Pemaquid Point, Maine. | Chafee, Cora Raymond (I00162)

1307 | Could he be the Albert Remington listed as a soldier in the 1880 Federal Census, stationed at Fort Elliot, Wheeler, TX? The age and birth location match. In the Federal Census of 1900, Albert & Ella are living at New Britain, Hartford Co., CT. There are seven children in the household. According to the census, the oldest son, George, is a child of Albert's first wife. The children include a set of twin girls. In 1910 the family is at Orange, New Haven Co., CT. In 1920 they are at New Britain, Hartford Co., CT. A married daughter and grandson are with them. | Remington, Albert (I08171)
1308 | Could he be the John Manchester, age 56 b. RI, in the 1850 Federal Census, living at Royalton, Niagara Co., NY? The age and birthplace are right, but it is a common name. He is married to Phebe, age 48, and has a son John, 13, both born NY. I have entered this information because the age and birthplace are correct, but definitely needs more research to confirm. On the other hand, could he be John Manchester, age 60 (c1790) living at Little Compton in 1850? His wife is Sarah age 55. They are living with or next to Almy family members: Cook 84, Ruth 60, Clarinda 50, & Deborah 48. | Manchester, John (I00780)

F. 36, Patience C. 42, Nellie G. 13, Julia Etta 11, John B. 3, and "not named" daughter 2 mos. The death record at Foster Town House identifies John's parents as Samuel S. & Hannah Kettell. It is not known where John & Patience's graves are. Alden Beaman's RI Vital Record, New Series, Vol. 9, p. 34, gives his date of birth as 1843/44. | Kettelle, John B. F. (I05004)
1313 | Could she be the Huldah Remington who married Jacob Green Frost on 25 Oct 1807? (see familysearch IGI) I am making an assumption that she is, based on her place of residence and the names of two of her sons: Josiah Anthony & Lyman. These are names in Huldah's family -- her father and two brothers. | Remington, Huldah (I06504)

1318 | Could this be the Thomas who became a captain and slave trader in Pawtuxet, and whose house later was owned by a Peleg Remington? And/or he might be this Thomas referred to in Portsmouth land records: Thomas Remington of Po, mariner, & wife Amy, sold house and land to Thomas Shaw of LC, tailor, for 800 pounds, 21 Nov 1761. Their families were both from Little Compton. I am not sure, but I am tentatively linking this Lydia to Abner as his partner. This needs more research to confirm. See notes for Abner; his wife had left him around 1805. | Manchester, Lydia (I18869)
1321 | Courtesy of Thomas G. Remington, I have a photocopy of a picture of Jemima' gravestone, which includes a memorial for daughter Alice who died at age 2. One genealogy at [familysearch.org] has Jemima's maiden name as Doty. | Bronson, Jemima M. (I13448)
1322 | Craig Rice shows two wives for Ezekiel: Mary Spencer and Ellen Spencer, with Ellen being the mother of Nicholas, as shown in Arnold's "Vital Record of RI." However, I am wondering if they are sisters, both daughters of William Spencer, or if they are one and the same -- Mary Ellen Spencer. Need to check on this. Ezekiel's will, dated 5 April 1754, mentions his wife Mary and his father-in-law William Spencer. | Spencer, Ellen (I01440)

1329 | Cranston, RI - Helen M. (Rathbun) Rathbun, who died Wednesday, August 28, 2019, was the wife of the late Edward B. Rathbun. She was 105. Born in Cranston on May 9, 1914 to Ernest C. and Eola M. (King) Rathbun, she is survived by her three daughters: Ella May Lamoureux (James) of Dayville, CT, Mary E. Champlin (Rollo) of Coventry and Dorothy E. Hutchins of West Greenwich. She was the beloved grandmother of Suzanne M., James E. Jr. & John Lamoureux, Cheryl McCulley, Cynthia Durkin, Susan Pimental & Sherry Champlin, Lisa Pontbriand, Lori Gouveia & Linda Hutchins and of her eighteen great grandchildren: Kathryn & Caroline Oskar, Andrew & Olivia Lamoureux, Erin & Lauren McCulley, Nathaniel, Jacob & Jared Pimental, Matthew & Zachary Durkin, Adrianna, Aubrey & Ava Carsetti, Kailey, Kelsey & Kyle Gouveia and Jamison Carlson. She was predeceased by her brother Arnold C. Rathbun whose wife Carol lives in Cranston. A lifelong resident of Cranston, she grew up on Oaklawn Avenue in Meshanticut. She graduated from the Meshanticut School, Cranston High School Class of 1932 and the former Edgewood Secretarial School. She worked as a school secretary for the Cranston School Department for 37 years retiring in 1981 as Attendance Department Clerk in the School Department's main office. She was a past president of the Cranston Municipal Retirees Association and a volunteer for over 30 years at the Cranston Senior Center. Following in the footsteps of her parents and grandparents, Helen joined the Oaklawn Grange in 1933. One year later she was elected to serve as Lecturer. Helen met her future husband at a Grange square dance and they were later married at Oaklawn Community Baptist Church in Cranston. Throughout their marriage, Edward and Helen were very active in the life of the Oaklawn Grange. After Edward served as master from 1952-1953, Helen succeeded him serving as master from 1953-1955. Throughout her lifetime, Helen served numerous terms as master and lecturer. As Chairman of the Women’s Activities Committee, she was instrumental in raising funds to support the Grange. In 2014, at the age of 100, Helen was still attending meetings and serving as its piano player. She was also a member of the Providence County Pomona Grange; the Rhode Island State Grange & the National Grange. A direct descendant of Roger Williams, she belonged to the Roger Williams Family Association. She was a founder of the Rathbun Family Association of Rhode Island & Vicinity. She also belonged to West Warwick Chapter #2210 of AARP, Inc. A devout Christian, she was a member, for 90 years, of the Oaklawn Community Baptist Church. A member of the Rhode Island Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, she served as the organist at Norwood Baptist Church in Warwick for over 50 years. She previously was the organist for four years at the former Second Presbyterian Church, Cranston and for ten years at the former St. Philips Episcopal Church in West Warwick. 1331 | Cyrus W. Remington was a Civil War Veteran. He was a Private in the 3rd Regiment, RI Heavy Artillery, Batallion C; Date of Muster 5 Oct 1861; residence Coventry, RI. He re-enlisted 20 Jan 1864 as an Articifer; mustered out of service 9 June 1865; rank at discharge was ARTF (Artificer). Cyrus's ancestry has not been proven. For the time being I have made an assumption that Cyrus is a son of Sheffield, because he is living near him in West Greenwich, RI, in the 1850 Federal Census (needs more research to confirm). An additional clue is that Christopher (son of Sheffield, thus his assumed brother) named a son Cyrus. I am not sure of the parentage of Sheffield, his (assumed) father -- see notes. The Ancestry CD says his next of kin at death were George & Mary A. Remington (not sure who they are). It says the same for Christopher, and I know his parents are Sheffield & Huldah, at least, according to the marriage record at Newport. In the 1850 Federal Census, Cyrus W. Remington is age 10, living in West Greenwich, RI, with the family of Burrill Matteson (age 31). Burrill is the first cousin of Patience (Matteson) Remington. Sheffield Remington is living nearby with a Whitford family. In 1860 Cyrus is still at West Greenwich, age 19, a laborer in a mill; he is living at a boarding house kept by Jason & Betsey Hazard. In the 1870 Census, Cyrus W. Remington is age 30, married to Susan J., age 20, and living in North Providence, RI. They have two young daughters, Ann E. & Mary J. In 1880 Cyrus & Susan Jane are living at Cranston, RI; their children are Mary Jane, Henry R., Levi W., & Elvira P.; the oldest daughter Ann is apparently living with her grandparents, William & Mary Diamond. In the 1885 RI State Census, Cyrus W. and his brother Christopher H. are both living in Johnston; both are carpenters and their birthplace is given as Coventry. According to the cemetery record, his middle name is Waterman. His son Levi's middle name is Waterman, also. The death record says he died at 27 Laban St., Providence, RI. | Remington, Cyrus Waterman (I14400)
1332 | Cyrus was "of West Greenwich." Probably his middle name was Gibbs, and he was the son of Joseph (1781-1843) and Sally (Gibbs) (1783-1832) Place, who are buried in the same cemetery. Possibly Cyrus's mother Sally Gibbs was a sister of Col. Samuel Gibbs (b.c. 1777), who married Cyrus's sister-in-law, Mary "Polly" Remington. Sadly, it appears that Cyrus and Susan had three children who died young. In the same cemetery are graves for Sally Gibbs Place 1843-1844, Joseph Andrew Place 1847-1848, and Joseph Andrew Place 1849-1853. Cyrus's two wives were first cousins, since Rosannah's father was Oliver Matteson, brother of Patience Matteson, who was Susan's mother. | Place, Dr. Cyrus G. (I04441)
1333 | Cyrus was in the Wisconsin legislature and militia. He was also an attorney and judge. In the 1860 Federal Census, C. C. Remington & Maria are living at Baraboo, Sauk Co., WI, with children Helen & George. In the 1870 Federal Census, Cyrus & Maria are still at Baraboo, with the following children: Helen 16, Maude 9, May 9, Arthur 6, Harrie 3, and infant 1. Cyrus is a sawyer. A biographical sketch can be founde here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wisauk/qrybio002.htm#922 | Remington, Cyrus Clark (I08557)
1334 | Cyrus's middle initial is W in census records. I found Walter as his middle name on a family tree at Rootsweb's Worldconnect (Claire White's). In the Federal Census of 1900, Cyrus & Clara are living at Red House, Cattaraugus Co., NY. They have two sons, Roland (Robert?) & Lewis, and are living next to Cyrus's parents and a cousin. According to cemetery data at NYGenweb, this couple had a son Roland 1897 - 1913. Possibly he was a twin to Robert (?). In 1920 the family is living at Salamanca, Cattaraugus Co., NY. The names of the 7 children are difficult to decipher. In 1930 the family is at Red House again: Cyrus W. 50, Clara B. 50, Cyrus W. 20, Harry E.13, and Alice 79. From findagrave.com: "Cyrus Remington . . . helped build the Aleghany State Park in NY. His name is on a plaque in the visitors' center." | Remington, Cyrus Walter (I22737)
1335 | D. C. Remington was Town Clerk at Scituate, RI, from 1875 to 1878, and also was a mill owner. In the 1850 Federal Census, DeWitt C. |
1349 | Daniel Gould Allen, in his Genealogy of the Allen Family (Google Books), has Sarah's maiden name as Havens. Other genealogies have her name as Sarah Mansfield. Son Jonathan named a son Mansfield, so that may be a clue. From an online message board: "Sarah Rhodes, widow of Capt. William Rhodes married John Allen of North Kingstown." The names of Sarah's parents were obtained from various online sources; confirmation needed. | Mansfield, Sarah (I13133)
