| Daniel Peter and Karla Marie are twins. After our first three children were born, Rich & I considered whether we should have any more children. When I was growing up as the youngest one in my own childhood family, I often wished for another sibling to share good times with, lamenting that I always was the one left behind. So, I thought it would be great to end with twins, so no one would have to be the "last one." So I confided in God, telling him that I thought my idea was a good one, and that if he gave us twins, I would know he was telling us that we should not have any more children after that -- we would end with twins. Well, afterwards I occasionally wondered if he had really heard that prayer. Some time later, when we discovered we were going to have another child, I half expected the doctor to tell us it was twins. Months went by and I had decided it was probably not to be, until one day during a routine exam, guess what -- twins! So, within a year of that prayer, we had another beautiful girl and boy. | Sorensen, Daniel Peter (I00061)

| Daniel ran a hotel in northern Wisconsin. In 1860 he is D. C. Remington, age 29, married to Julia and living at Kildare, Juneau Co., WI. They have a son William, age 2. In 1870, Daniel C. & Julia E. Remington, ages 39 & 33, are living at Mauston, Juneau Co., WI. They have three children: Wm A. 12, Frank 9, & Jesse G. 5 months. In 1880 the family is at Wonewoc, Juneau Co., WI. D. C. Remington is 48, and his wife Julia E. is 43; they have five children in the household: Frank 19, Jessie 10, Dan L. 3, Ella G. 6, & Charles C. 10 months. In the 1900 Federal Census (dated 14 June), Daniel Remington is age 69 (May 1831), widowed, and living with his brother Alvah & family on Remington Flats at Waukesha, Waukesha Co., WI. He is also listed in the same census (dated 27 June & 2 July) as age 67 with his son William at Mauston, Juneau Co., WI. This census gives his date of birth as Jan 1833. | Remington, Daniel Carey (I14436)

| Daniel Remington was ensign of Militia, 2nd Company for Warwick, in 1730 - 1733. Very likely it was this Daniel. Warwick Land Evidence, dated 22 Nov 1736: Stephen Remington of Providence, mariner, sold to Jonathan Remington of East Greenwich, mariner, one lot in Chippowinoxit, Warwick, Lot #16, one and one-half acres; signed by Stephen Remington, witnessed by Dan Remington. (These three were brothers.) He is probably the Daniel Remington listed for Warwick in the 1774 RI Census. In the book "Remington Family" Martha A. Benns has Daniel's date of birth as 18 October 1681, but this is too early because he is said to be under 21 in his father's will dated 1710. Cherry Fletcher Bamberg has the year as 1689. | Remington, Daniel Sr. (I02908)

| Daniel Rhodes was of Pawtuxet. | Rhodes, Daniel (I20287)

| Daniel S. Remington was a deacon of the Seventh-Day Baptist Church. In the Federal Census of 1850, Daniel S. & Eliza Remington are both aged 48, he born RI and she born MA; living at Andover, Allegany Co., NY. Their children are: Fanny M. 22, Delos 15, and Oscar 11; all three born in NY. They are next to the family of Stephen Potter Jr, who I believe is a descendant of the Stephen Potter family of Hopkinton, RI (see familysearch.org and americanancestors.org vital records of RI). In the 1860, 1870, and 1880 Federal Censuses, Daniel & Eliza are still living at Andover, Allegany Co., NY. In 1870 & 1880, they are with their son son Delos and his wife, Philena. In 1880 Daniel & Eliza both are 78 years old. | Remington, Daniel S. (I07168)

| Daniel's will mentions a wife named Freelove. I am not sure her maiden name was Arnold, but based on the the fact that they had a son named Arnold, and that her maiden name is given as Arnold in RI Vital Records New Series, Vol 6 p 156, I have tentatively used that as her maiden name. A family tree at Rootsweb's Worldconnect shows her as Freelove Burlingame. However, the death record of son Arnold at West Greenwich has Daniel's wife as Freelove Arnold (as per RIVR NS Vol 6 p 153; I have not viewed the original). | ARNOLD, Freelove (I24309)
|
| Daniel's will mentions his wife, Mary, and two daughters, both under age 21: Mary & Ruth. Daniel's will was witnessed by Benjamin Thurston, Peleg Wood, & Richard Wood. He was probably the Daniel Gould born 22 Dec 1686 to Daniel & Mary, recorded in Friends' Records, Newport, RI. (This needs more research to confirm) | Gould, Daniel (I21687)

Jones & Cornelia Durand; grandparents, Bennie Jones & Amelia Towner; great-grandparents, Benjamin Jones, Jr. & Molly Stannard; great-great-grandfather, Benjamin Jones. Excerpted from her DAR file: Benjamin Jones, Jr., joined Capt. Skinner's Co., Col. Latimer, 25 Aug 1777. He was with the regiment when ordered to reinforce Gen. Gates at Saratoga and took part in the battle 19 Sep 1777, between the regiments commanded by Gen. Gates and Gen. Burgoyne. Entered service on State Man of War Oliver Cromwell, 12 Mar 1778, and participated in the capture of the Admiral Keppel of 18 guns, 13 Apr 1778. In March 1781, he joined Brig. General Waterbury's Battalion which joined Washington while encamped at Phillipsburg in July and was aftrerwards under Heath's orders on the Westchester line. Was a pensioner under Act of Congress approved 7 June 1832. Mary is also the great-granddaughter of Samuel Durand of Cheshire, CT, who enlisted when but 16 years of age and is said to have been the youngest soldier from the State of Connecticut. Was a pensioner under Act of Congress approved 1840. In the 1930 Federal Census, she may be the Mary Remington, age 74, living at the Old People's Home on Jefferson St. in Hartford, CT. | Jones, May Leffingwell (I19871)

| DAR records show a first marriage for Olney, to Amy Gully, and a daughter Lucinda (no dates in the file). This needs more research to confirm. There were several individuals named Olney Potter living at this time, but this one is unique in that he has the middle initial E. POTTER Olney E., at Foster, aged 43 years, May 19, 1831. His gravestone at Hopkins Mills Cemetery identifies him as son of William Potter (findagrave.com). I have placed him here as a son of William Potter & Mary Ellis, based solely on a DAR record. I have not found other evidence thus far to determine if he might belong to a different William. However, it is reasonable to place him here because Olney had a son named Pardon (see gravestone at Hopkins Mills), and the ancestry of his (assumed) father William goes back to Pardon Tillinghast. I have not yet found a connection to the Olney family. In the Federal Census of 1820, Olney E. Potter is in Foster, RI. Unfortunately, the census taker listed the heads of families roughly in alphabetical order (at least with all the Ps together) so it is impossible to see who was living next to whom. Other Potter heads of households listed are: John, William, Daniel, Benjamin, and Edmund. Olney's household includes: 1 free wh male 26-44, 5 free wh females <10, 1 free wh female 16-25, 1 free wh female 26-44, total of 8. This implies two parents and 5 young girls, and one older girl/young woman. In the Federal Census of 1830, Olney E. Potter is still in Foster. The household includes: 2 free wh males <5, 1 free wh male 5-9, 1 free wh male 15-19, 1 free wh male 40-49, 2 free wh females 5-9, 2 free wh females 10-14, 3 free wh females 15-19, 1 free wh female 30-29, total of 11. William A. Potter is on the same page but not living nearby. He may be a brother or other relative. In the Federal Census of 1810, Olney Potter (no middle initial) is living in Scituate, RI. He is next to Johnson Potter. Olney's household includes: 1 free wh male 10-15, 3 free wh males 16-25, 1 free wh female <10, 1 free wh female 10-15, 1 free wh female 16-25; total of 7. This appears to be a young couple ages 16-25, along with two other young adult males, and 1 teen boy and 1 teen girl, and 1 girl under 10. If Olney & Orra were married at this point, they would have been 21 and 17. This looks like an extended family group -- not sure if it's the correct Olney. There's also an Olney Potter listed at Cranston in 1810; the household includes 1 free wh male 10-15, 1 free wh male 26-44, 1 free wh female 16-25; total 3. Olney E. Potter and Hugh Cole witnessed the 21 Feb 1811 will of Joseph Ford of Foster, RI. Olney E. Potter witnessed the 20 Feb 1812 will of Jacob Walker of Foster, RI. Olney E. Potter is mentioned in the 11 Jan 1833 will of John Matteson of West Greenwich, physician (implies John may be Olney's son-in-law). | Potter, Olney E. (I26638)
