2252 | Her name is Catheen, not Cathleen or Katherine. | Powers, Catheen (I01599)

2257 | Her name is given as Abigail Jenks on her gravestone. The will of Abigail Jenckes of Scituate, widow of Samuel Jenckes late of Scituate, dec'd, was dated 17 Nov 1842, and proved 10 Dec 1849. It mentions two daughters: Abigail, wife of Eddy Randall; and Sarah, wife of Phillip Wells. | Griffiths, Abigail (I13703)
2258 | Her name is given as both Roby and Roba in marriage and death records of her children. The Mayflower Descendants book gives it as Rube or Rhoda. However, it is Roby (possibly short for Robena, as her granddaughter's name is given in one place). Her granddaughter is named Roby S. Dennis, clearly named after Roby Soule. In the 1850 Federal Census, Roby Dennis is age 65, living at Tiverton with her husband, John Dennis, age 70 (these ages are most likely not precise). They are living next to John & Hannah (Manchester) Remington and family, on one side, and next to John & Mary Manchester and family on the other side. The 1860 Tiverton Census shows a Rhoda (or Rhoba?) Dennis at age 80, living with (her son) Bradford Dennis 39, next to households of Joseph Rounds 31 and Holder Dennis 44. From this I have estimated her year of birth as c1780, although she may have been born a year or two later than that. I had her estimated birth year as 1780, but Soule Kindred email dated 1 June 2020 stated it should be 1774. I don't know how they arrived at that. Based on the censuses, she was born 1780-1785; the ages given could be incorrect. According to the death record of her son Bradford, Roby Sowle was born in Westport, MA. | SOULE, Robena "Roby" (I00920)
2259 | Her name is given as Cora in the 1865 Iowa census and in the 1870 federal census. Elsewhere it is Vera. | Remington, Cora E. (I13371)
2260 | Her name is given as Elizabeth in the marriage record and Eliza in the children's birth records. I have roughly estimated her birth year. She could not have been the daughter of Rebecca Gore who married Nathaniel Hubbard in 1726. I believe Elizabeth and all her siblings (that I know of) were children of Nathaniel's first wife. She is mentioned as a daughter in the 1747 will of her father Nathaniel Hubbard; the will also mentions two of her sons, William and Nathaniel. This suggests that her son Richard may have died by the date of the will. I am not sure of this date for Elizabeth's death. Ezra Stiles mentions the death of a "Mrs. Munday" in June 1773, so it may refer to Richard's widow (source: research from Cherry Fletcher Bamberg, RIGS). | Hubbard, Elizabeth Eliza (I28593)

2266 | Her name is sometimes given as Alce or Alys. See will of her father Anthony, dated 5 May 1649, which mentions his daughters Alce & Mary (Tripp). A receipt concerning the will was signed by John Tripp & Mary Tripp, his wife, and says legacy was received from Rose Weeden, executrix. Another receipt was signed by Lott Strainge & Alce Strainge, his wife, formerly Alce Paine daughter of Anthony Paine, deceased, and says the legacy was from Rose Paine, executrix to Anthony Paine. Her own will of 1688 mentions ten cousins who are the children of John & Mary (Paine) Tripp. Also named is her Uncle John Albro and his wife, as well as several other kinsmen. | Paine, Alice (I01516)

In the Federal Census of 1870, Rosella Fisher is age 44 VT, living at Diana, Lewis Co., NY. In the household are the following, all surname Kring: Chas 16, Chester 12, Lewis 10, Adelbert 7, Ida 1, & Lucinda 18. In the Federal Census of 1880, she is Rosella Kring 54 VT. With her are: Chester 22 NY (NY/VT), Edelbert 17 NY (NY/VT) & Ida 11 NY (Ireland/VT). | Remington, Rozila (I24002)

It also says she was born at Foster. In the 1860 Federal Census, Cynthia is age 40, widowed, and the governess of the family farm in Foster. Three daughters are with her: Elfrida, Hannah, & Mary. Hannah Tillinghast, age 75, and Welthan Tillinghast, age 68, are in the household. Hannah is Cynthia's mother. In the 1880 Federal Census, Cynthia Remington is age 60, keeping house in Foster, RI. |
2282 | Her name is written as Dinah on the 1850 Federal Census, but Diana in the town history (Child's Gazetteer of Jefferson County). In the 1870 Federal Census, Dinah is age 85, living with her son Thomas and family in Ellisburgh, Jefferson Co., NY. Excerpted from Descendants of William Hall of Newport and Portsmouth, RI: "Dinah HALL (3/30/1785, Hancock, MA-2/1871 Lorraine, NY) m. Jonathan REMINGTON (1/5/1784-5/2/1861). Dinah Hall married Jonathan Remington, the Jefferson County NY Journal called the Remington family, "A family of good old New England stock." The couple left Hancock, MA for the newly opened settlement in New York State called the Black River Wilderness territory. They were among the earliest settlers in early 1800, when the forest supplied the raw material and the axe was their principal tool! The couple chose the fertile land in the hill country for their homestead called Highland Farm. Jonathan was a prosperous farmer and Dinah was an expert at weaving along with knitting, her favorite was adding intricate patterns to the linen she had made. Jonathan was a volunteer in the War of 1812 along with his brother Noel and Dinah's brother, Thomas Hall. The couple lived out their long lives on Highland Farm in Lorraine, New York, having raised their 7 children to adult hood. The farm remained in the family for 4 generations, until it was sold in 1915." http://members.cox.net/wdegidio/hall/WilliamHalllineage.htm | Hall, Dinah (I09603)

Her daughter Celia, age 19, is with her. Setina is keeping boarders, and Celia is a clerk. | Unknown, Selina (I20851)
2288 | Her name may have been Abigail; this is an idea deduced from observing the reoccurrence of this name among the descendants. Some time after entering the above note, I was informed of a reference to William & Abigail Remington in the East Greenwich Town Council records of Jan 1742/3 (source: Cherry Fletcher Bamberg, compiler & editor of "RI Roots" and "Gleanings.") Therefore, I have made a tentative assumption that this may be William, the son of Thomas & Mary, and that his wife is the Abigail referenced in the East Greenwich records. | UNKNOWN, Abigail (I05546)
2289 | Her name may have been Angenett or Ann Jeanette. In the various censuses it is written as: Antoinette, Ann J., & Amgett. | Unknown, Ann J. (I20364)

The child of Isaiah and "the prophetess." No other mention is made of this woman. The child is used in Isaiah 8:4 as a measure of time ("For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria")-- and is never mentioned again. | Gorton, Mahershalalhashbaz (I03107)

2295 | Her name on the birth/baptismal records is Ane Cathrine Christensen. Ane Katrine (Brahe Christensen) Sorensen died from after-effects of childbirth in 1888, within a year after her daughter Ane Katrine Bothilde was born. Her son Julius used the name Brahe as a middle name for all his sons. The origin of this name within the family is uncertain; it is in parentheses in the birth record of her sister Maren, and is also written in Ane's marriage record to Soren. It may have come from the area around Grenaa-Ebeltoft, according to our relative Bodil. Is there a connection with famous Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe? At this point it is only an intriguing possibility. Read about him at the following web sites (or simply do an internet search for his name): http://www.nada.kth.se/~fred/tycho/index.html http://es.rice.edu/ES/humsoc/Galileo/People/tycho_brahe.html http://www.phys.virginia.edu/classes/109N/1995/lectures/tychob.html http://www.landskrona.se/kultur/tychobrahe/sis.html http://www.landskrona.se/kultur/tychobrahe/sis.html | Christensen, Ane Katrine Brahe (I00809)

2298 | Her name was written as "Phillip," but nowadays is usually written as "Phillippa" or even "Phillis." According to information on given names at a Rootsweb site, Phillip/Philip is a popular name for both males & females in the time from 1450 - 1650, although it declines in popularity after the reign of Mary Tudor (1553-1558), when Philip II of Spain, her militant Roman Catholic husband, was perceived as the enemy. The name becomes very rare in the 1600s. | Unknown, Phillippe (I03844)
