| Her obituary says that while she had been in ill health for some months, she died after an 18-hour illness from pneumonia. In the 1860 Federal Census, Jane Remington is age 16 and living at Fenton, MI, with her parents, siblings, and uncle. In the 1870 Federal Census, Eliza J. White is living with her husband Edward H. White and their three children, Jessie A., Mabel P., & Edward H. Jr. They are at Fenton, MI, with her parents, William & Jane Remington. In 1880 she is still living there with her parents William & Jane, but has remarried to J. H. Traver, and has five children: Jessie A., Mabel P., Edward H., Harry R., & Richard E. I think all of these were by her first husband. | Remington, Elizabeth Jennie (I05606)
| Her parents may have been Joseph and Juliana. See the following notes: This is the birth date for Catherine given in my Great-grandma Chafee's writings. She said she got the info from her Aunt Ann. According to records online, that date of birth, 12 Feb 1804, is for a Catherine Smith, daughter of Joseph and Juliana Smith in Woolwich, Kent, England; christened 26 Feb 1804; denomination Scots church. "Catherine, daughter of Joseph Smith, Sergeant Major in (?) Horse Brigade of the Royal Regiment of Artillery in the Parish of Woolwich and County of Kent, and of Juliana his wife was borne February 12th 1804 and Baptized February 26th 1804 by me John Blythe." (England & Wales, Non-Conformist and Non-Parochial Registers, 1567-1970) Her death record notes residence Charlestown. I believe this is a district of Manchester. | SMITH, Catherine (I00009)

| Her parents may have been Samuel Lane & Abigail Hovey. | Lane, Abigail (I08243)
| Her parents possibly were John Marsh & Susannah Skelton. | MARSH, Elizabeth (I02085)

| Her parents were George & Phebe Davis. | Davis, Annette B. (I26230)
| Her parents were John S. & Lydia (Waterman) Aborn. | Aborn, Annie Sismore (I27975)
| Her place of birth is given in some genealogies as Portsmouth, but that is impossible, since the settlement was not begun until the middle 1930s. The Portsmouth Compact, dated 1638, does have a Phillip Shearman as one of the signers. However, his daughter named Mary was born later. Other possibilities -- Mary Sherman, May 1624 - 1673/1699 ?, daughter of Samuel Sherman 20 Oct 1601 - Oct 1644 & Hester Burgess 1604 - 14 Aug 1646. Or, someone else has suggested she may have been Mary Soule, a daughter of George Soule. Dr. Kenneth Parker's notes indicate Thomas Fish's wife was Mary AYERS (no source documentation given; Dr. Parker has passed away). See the following note. "I believe that this lady was Mary Ayers whose father was Henry Ayres. She was born 1615?? and died 1699 in Portsmouth, RI. Mary Ayres married Thomas Fish in 1647 in Portsmouth. He was the son of Robert Fish and Alice Fish. I got this from RootsWeb.com by a David E. Crandall, Jr. [dcrandall.jr@prodigy.net]. A note on this RootsWeb.com site says: A notation in an issue of "Second Boat" lists her maiden name as Ayres, daughter of Henry. Submission was by Mary P. Lavery, 7 Paris Ave., Corinth, NY 12822. TORREY lists her name as [?Sherman]. The FISH genealogy very tentatively assigns her maiden name as SOULE. (RIGENWEB mailing list posting from Arlene Clarke Haddock). See notes for her husband, Thomas Fish. See her Portsmouth will dated 9 September 1697, proved 9 Aug 1699, which mentions sons John Fish, Robert Fish, Thomas Fish (dec.), and Daniel Fish; daughters Mehittable Tripp, Mary Brayton, and Alike (Alice?) Knowles; grandchildren Preserved Fish and Mehitable Fish, of Thomas (dec.); grandchildren Thomas Fish, Comfort Fish, and Ruth Fish, of Daniel; granddaughter Mary Fish, of John; grandson Robert Fish of Robert. | Unknown, Mary (I01032)

| Her surname is given as Carpenter & Westcott in various genealogies. | Unknown, Eleanor (I06234)
| Her surname may have been Barton. Lucy, wife of John Remington Died March 6, 1836 in the 33rd year of her age. My flesh shall slumber in the ground Till the last trumpets joyful sound. Then burst the chain with sweet surprise in my Saviour's image rise. | Burton, Lucy (I05795)

| Her surname may have been Giles or Gillis. Her father was William Giles/Gillies of Flint, MI. Her mother was Araminta Unknown. | Gillies, Sarah Hyslip "Hattie" (I13627)
| Her surname may have been Greer. Elsewhere her middle name is given as Rose. The name of her mother as Elizabeth Margaret Ross came from Tom Lavery's data at Rootsweb's Worldconnect. See notes for Silas, in which pension mentions wife as Margaret. Paul Remington's online genealogy says this couple had only two daughters. Betsey is said to be of Chesterfield, CT, in "Landmarks of Monroe County, NY" by William F. Peck (1895), Part III, p. 80 - 81. | Geer, Betsey Ross (I08360)
| Her surname may have been Knight. | Unknown, Elizabeth (I02807)
| Her surname may have been Tibbetts or Thomas. | Unknown, Alse "Ales" (I05911)
| Her surname was either Osmore or Osmon. I can not find her in the 1880 Federal Census, so I am making an assumption that she died before then -- although she may have remarried again in her senior years, or just be unrecorded. | Osmore, Frances E. (I10241)
| Her will dated 24 July 1799, and proved on the last Monday of March 1802, describes Susannah as a widow, being aged. It mentions sons Levi, Asa, and Carmi, and daughters Mary (wife of Samuel Johnson) and Meribah (wife of Job Herington). A copy of this will is at the West Greenwich Town Hall. I have made an assumption that Susannah died in West Greenwich. | CARR, Susannah (I01232)
| Her will mentions by name her father, late husband, ten sons and three daughters. | Hall, Sarah (I04295)
| Her will names her sons -- Stukley (eldest), Joseph (second), and John (third), four living daughters -- Frances, Elisabeth, Mary, & Margaret, and three Smith granddaughters. | Holden, Sarah (I03315)
| Her will was dated 5 Nov 1729, and proved Nov 1732. In addition to the family members listed, the spouses and children of two other daughters (names not given) are mentioned: son-in-law William Burling, and his children William, Rebecca, Benjamin, Hannah, Sarah, Ebenezer, and Amy; also, Thomas Rogers, another son-in-law, and his son Thomas Rogers. | THURSTON, Mary (I03822)
| Herbert was in the US Air Force, and died in a tragic plane explosion during a routine training flight. | Remington, Herbert Winslow (I06074)

| Hezekiah Luther's name is found on a list of members of the Swansea Baptist Church. | LUTHER, Hezekiah (I19674)
| Hezekiah Remington 16 - 50 A , Res. Po, is listed for Coventry, RI, in the 1777 RI Military Census. Also there is William Remington 16 - 50 A (residence Portsmouth), possibly his father; and a Thomas Remington 16 - 50 A. Hezekiah Remington is on the list of Freemen of Exter, dated 20 Apr 1814. James N. Arnold's "Family Notes" has his date of birth as 22 May 1757. I have made an assumption that he was born on Prudence Island; this, in turn, is based on the assumption that his parents are William & Freelove (and Portsmouth land evidence showing this couple on Prudence Island). Hezekiah had two children, named William & Freelove. This is a strong clue. Hezekiah lived in Exeter and North Kingstown, and it is known that William & Freelove bought a house and land there in 1775. | Remington, Hezekiah (I05856)
| Hezekiah was a son of Samuel Gorton, Jr., the eldest son of the original Samuell Gorton who is our ancestor and the founder of Warwick. Hezekiah's father and our ancestor Benjamin were brothers. In 1724 the RI General Assembly granted Hezekiah permission to run a ferry from Warwick Neck to Prudence Island, en route to Newport. He lost this privilege in 1746. | Gorton, Hezekiah (I02200)
| Hezekiah was of Cambridge and Boston. His family origins are possibly in Bednall Green, England (source: A Brief Genealogy of the Usher Family of New England, by William Henry Whitmore, at Google Books). In Massachusetts he was a prominent merchant and a member of the Old South Church. He was made freeman at Cambridge 14 March 1638 (source: A memorial sketch of Roland Greene Usher, 1823-1895 by Edward Preston Usher). He was the first bookseller and publisher in English America. From 1660 to 1663 he oversaw the printing of the Bible in the Indian language. He was one of the original founders of the Old South Church in 1669. Hezekiah held many civic offices. Hezekiah and Frances had six known children (see above source). He married second to Elizabeth Symmes (by whom he had Hannah & Zechariah, both d y) on 2 Nov 1652; he married third to Mary Alford, widow of Peter Butler; she is mentioned as his "deare and wellbeloved wife Mary Usher" in his will. The will of Hezekiah Usher Sr. of Boston is dated 11 May 1676. Besides his wife Mary, it mentions gifts to sons Hezekiah and John; daughter Sarah Tyng, wife of Johnathan, and their children John & Mary; grandchildren Hezekiah and Elizabeth Browne; wife's daughter Hannah Butler; Mary Butler; wife's sons Peter and Samuel Butler; brother Samuel Usher in England; Robert Usher and his sister Elizabeth Usher [nephew and niece, ch of bro Robert dec'd]; son-in-law Samuel Shrimpton; Elizabeth "now wife" of son John Usher and John's daughter Elizabeth; sister Elizabeth Harwood; "brother John Harwood"; Hannah Scotten; Rachel wife of Thomas Harwood; my mother Mrs. Sarah Syms; my brother Mr. Zackery Syms; Brother Savage and his wife; Capt. William Davis and his wife; my brother Brock and his wife; sister Brock's four children; my Brother Mr. William Syms; Timothy Syms and his wife; Timothy Proute Jr. and his wife; Brother Willis and his wife; Harvard College; the poor in Boston; and so on -- the text may be read in "A memorial sketch of Roland Greene Usher, 1823-1895" by Edward Preston Usher, p 143ff (at Google Books). Appointed as joint executors were his wife Mary Usher and sons Hezekiah and John. John & Frances had a younger son John who was buried at Boston 10th (Dec) month 1645. | USHER, Hezekiah (I06681)
| Hezekiah's will goes into some detail on the broken relationship between him and his wife, whom he accuses of cunning and covetousness and words as sharp swords toward him. In 1687 Bridget left Hezekiah and went to England, not returning to America until after his death. | Usher, Hezekiah Jr. (I15047)

| Hildreth was raised in Washington State and later settled in Illinois. He went to Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL, and later worked for the National Association of Railroads. My dad, Norman Remington, received Hildreth's address from someone in the late 1970s, after Hildreth and his wife had visited friends in Mexico and Guatemala. My dad wrote to him at that time but doesn't remember if he received a reply. I think Hildreth and his wife may have attended the Wheaton Bible Church because it was mentioned in a note that he knew of me when I was at Wheaton; however, we never met. At the time, I would not have known of our family connection, although it would have seemed likely even at the time. | Remington, Hildreth Hugh (I20806)
